With a dropout deadline just two weeks away, the Missouri congressman said hes totally in the race and will not drop his bid despite calls from top Republicans and conservative pundits that he immediately do so. As he rushed out of the Capitol on Monday away from a gaggle of reporters, Akin claimed hes getting widespread encouragement to stay in the race.
Akin said Missouri voters have told him this: Weve already voted. The party bosses want to put anyone else in. Dont you give up; you stay in there and you fight.
He added, Thats what Im getting all over the state. Im very encouraged, saying his campaign is going incredibly well.
Akin said he believes once the Sept. 25 deadline passes, more money will pour into his race to defeat Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, claiming the race will be neck and neck.

(3,544 posts)I know many others that refuse to vote for him. Claire wants him to stay because she thinks she has her best shot against him, as opposed to someone else. You go Girl!!!

(1,941 posts)... Then I read that Akin actually has until 9/25 to withdraw from the contest.
So Claire hasn't started yet for two good reasons:
[1] They don't want to scare Akins off. Running against Akin is her best chance at being re-elected
[2] No point in spending money against Akin just in case he does decide to withdraw

(3,544 posts)the GOP is self destructing all on its own, on a daily basis. Should make for an interesting election.

(538 posts)Until we can be more sure of Warren in winning in Massachusetts, it's vital that McCaskill win in Missouri.
Right now MA is on the bubble (although Warren pulled into a Tie yesterday in the Kimball poll I posted)
McCaskill needs to win in case Warren doesn't.
But if Warren wins too, it will be virtually impossible for the Repugs to take the Senate.

(645 posts)We are going to lose in Nebraska, probably going to lose in North Dakota and Wisconsin is looking difficult.
Gotta offset that stuff.
