OHIO: Sherrod Brown +8 (PPP)

September 11, 2012

PPP

OHIO - (Brown +8)

Brown - 48

Mandel - 40

------

Sherrod Brown up eight over Josh Mandel

Raleigh, N.C. – The Ohio Senate race has tightened a bit in the last month, but incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown maintains a high single-digit advantage over his Republican challenger, State Treasurer Josh Mandel. Brown leads 48-40 among likely voters, down a tick from the 47-37 margin PPP found in early August.

The closure is due mostly to voters souring on Brown and growing a little fonder of Mandel as they get to know him better. 42% approve and 44% disapprove of Brown’s job performance, versus 41-37 in the last survey. Mandel is seen favorably by a third and unfavorably by 44%, a bump from 26-42 last time. While Brown is not a particularly popular figure, Mandel is one of the weakest Republican candidates in the country.

4. Outside SuperPACs

Yes, what has caused Brown's numbers to come down since the beginning of the year is all the money being poured into attack ads from outside SuperPACs.

But he has maintained a lead all year, so that is a good sign. And if Obama wins Ohio, Brown should too.

Even though he's being outspent 8 to 1 by Karl Rove and other outside money, it'll be hard to unseat Brown.

It's funny, because the commercial running now plays like a baseball game with the announcer calling the game against Sherrod. In the spot, the bob Eucker-like announcer gives sad errors for losing jobs and laying waste to Ohio by supporting "Obamacare".

We're one of the states where jobs have returned since the recession and Gov Kasich has spent a lot of effort to make this well known. The week after he won election a couple years ago, Kasich had all the signs torn down that were posted where stimulus money was being spent and has been patting himself on the back since.

I was just wondering this morning how Senator Brown was doing in the race since I don't watch tv nor read newspapers. I get all of my info online, but I just didn't have time to look it up this morning.

That kid wouldn't even answer questions or give any information on how he'd vote. He's just a kid. When I saw him on TV, I thought to myself, "how could anyone pick him over Sharrod Brown?" Brown is such a good worker and a good person, no one can tell me that kid would do a better job.

9. Gravis poll confirms Brown is ahead of Mandel

Even though Gravis is not a popular pollster on this board, it's worthwhile to note that their poll today has Brown up 6 points on Mandel from a Tie earlier this month.

This is good news.

Gravis is not "right-leaning." It is a front organization. Completely non-credible and therefore not worthwhile to post.

Mandel wouldn't even be a factor in the first place.

The only thing helping him is that all the SuperPAC money from outside OHIO has dropped Brown's numbers several points from earlier in the year.

But I think most people in OHIO realize that Mandel is a vile little brat.
