Handel also blames Cecile Richards from Planned Parenthood. What did they expect her to do?
"A tell-all book by a former official at Susan G. Komen for the Cure alleges that Karl Rove told the charity to reverse its decision to end its cancer screening funding of Planned Parenthood raising eyebrows among conservatives who wanted Komen to stand firm amid the uproar.

The book, Planned Bullyhood, went on sale Tuesday and is already getting attention for its depiction of Roves role. Handel describes herself as stunned when Brinker told her about Roves advice:
If we blink now, its over and no one will know what Komen stands for, I implored.
Nancys reply stunned me. Karen, Ive talked to a lot of people. And even Karl says we have to backtrack. Theres just no other way.
Karl? Whos Karl?
"She looked at me strangely as if I should know exactly who she was talking about. She said, Karl Rove!
"Rove told the Daily Caller Tuesday afternoon that Handels account was not accurate, but he did not elaborate.

"In the book, Handel suggests that Komen officials thought that Planned Parenthood wouldnt put up a fight over the funding decision and blames Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards for setting off the media firestorm.
We believed we were working toward an amicable split right up to the day Cecile deliberately lit the fire with the media, Handel writes."

(42,564 posts)The investigation that led to the decision by the Komen Foundation is being undertaken by a Congressional committee looking into Planned Parenthood affiliates to see if they used taxpayer money to fund abortions. The investigation was spurred by anti-abortion Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., chairman of the Energy and Commerce oversight subcommittee.
Recently, we implemented new granting strategies and criteria some have regrettably mischaracterized, Brinker said in a video statement. Regrettably, this strategic shift will impact any number of long-standing partners.
We will never bow to political pressure, she added, dismissing the accusations as scurrilous.
