"Wisconsinites are about to get a double-dose of Paul Ryan on the airwaves.
"Mitt Romney's running mate is also running for re-election to his House seat in Janesville, Wis., and will start running ads for that campaign on Wednesday.
As Ryan for Congress has done in years past, we will be airing ads in the Milwaukee and Madison TV media markets in the run up to the November election, said Ryans congressional campaign Manager Kevin Seifert. The ad will focus on the critical choice before voters this November and the importance of electing leaders who are capable of advancing solutions that get America back on track. The spot is the first in a series that will be rolled out through Election Day.
"News of the spot comes as Romney launches his first television ads in Wisconsin this week that will air most prominently in the Milwaukee media market, according to a Politico report ."

Of course, they emphasize that this is business as usual, nothing to see here - except that Ryan is now a VP Candidate. I'll just sit back and watch this one.

(5,818 posts)at the same time?
Senators Bob Dole and Joe Lieberman resigned their Senate seats to run for national office, even though IIRC they weren't up for Senate re-election those years.
But Ryan gets to run for two offices at the same time?
The House won't be rid of him even for two years when he loses with Mitt?

(24,303 posts)The good news is that in Wisconsin, if he wins the VP office, the Governor doesn't get to appoint a new Congressman. A special election will be held. If I were Romney, I would not have allwed him to run for both offices. I'd have told him you're either in this to win it, or you're not. I'm sure the party wouldn't like that, though. Goes to show they think that seat might be vulnerable. I would love to see him lose both elections and be gone from Congress.

(42,714 posts)He's run six times, the only time he has gotten less than 62 percent of the vote was his first campaign, and he took that race with 57 percent. Even in 2008, when his district narrowly went for Obama over McCain, Ryan still captured more than 60 percent of the vote. If you know the district, you know its not likely that he'll lose it.

(683 posts)I thought-- but may be wrong- that he was still in the Senate race during the 2008 election. But not running ads and stuff. Again, I may be completely wrong.

(42,714 posts)LBJ, Lloyd Bentsen, Joe Lieberman and Joe Biden all ran for Senate simultaneously with running for VP. LBJ and Biden gave up their seats after winning the VP race while Bentsen and Lieberman won their Senate seats and continued to serve. And while Dole resigned from the Senate in 1996 to focus on his presidential campaign, he did not resign when he was the VP nominee (his term wasn't up).
