Here's the best way to make sure NO ONE stays away from the polls this fall

(this is offered to whichever candidate does get nominated).

1) For once, DON'T have the nominee(whoever it is)move further right after the convention. It doesn't gain votes and it simply alienates the core voters we need to win. Progressive ideas are popular, and we can win if we actually have our ticket defend them against right-wing attack.

2) Don't simply demand the support of the defeated candidate's loyalists(whoever they may be). Ask for it respectfully, do the work of healing any wounds inflicted during the heat of the campaign. Treating those whose candidate did not get nominated with respect and honoring the best of what their candidate stood for is the best way to pull together for victory.

3) The nominee should include a significant number of primary planks from the runners-up. and actually allow real debate and free votes on minority planks at the convention. Also, no freaking "free-speech zones" and no massive cop presence. Just let people say what they want and peacefully protest if they feel the need.

4) Make a clear commitment that no future primary campaign will be run as this one is...no exclusivity clause on the debates, no strict limit on the debates, and a reshuffling of the primary schedule so that states that are loyally Democratic and progressive matter as much as (or, if possible, more than)states that haven't voted Democratic presidentially for decades and therefore probably won't ever vote Democratic again.

5) Start the work YESTERDAY, with the cooperation of all the Democratic campaigns, to get voters registered(and, if need be, re-registered), in order to counteract all of the voter suppression work the other party has managed to do. Common effort on this can lead to grassroots unity later.

These five simple ideas will do a lot to bind us together behind whoever does get nominated, and will therefore make victory in the fall(which depends on getting a massive turnout, something only a passionate people's campaign can achieve)much more achievable.
