2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRepublicans DESPERATELY want Obama to be seen as "Jimmy Carter 2"
McCain, foregoing the unity and bipartisan support which characterized his and other Republicans' comments yesterday regarding the Embassy attacks in Egypt and Libya, has launched back into the "weak" and "leading from behind" attacks that have characterized the right's attacks on President Obama's foreign policy since he became POTUS. I expect that, now the dust has settled on the tragic events at the Libyan Embassy on 9/11, other Republicans will gradually return to attacking President Obama on these grounds as well, however spurious they may seem to us and other people residing in Karl Rove's "reality-based community" so as to try to continue their relentless obsession with making President Obama a single-term POTUS like Jimmy Carter.
I see signs today that Republicans like Rob Portman are even starting to defend Romney- using his campaign's "helpful" talking points- over what nearly everybody agreed yesterday was a major blunder and politicization of tragic events. I would say that it should NOT be enough to accuse President Obama of "weakness" or "fecklessness" or "leading from behind (whatever the hell that means)" but to our GOP MSM such assertions never seem to be seriously challenged. I really hope that Romney is not able to be "rehabilitated" over what seems to be a seriously misguided and, frankly, disgusting attack on the President and even on the Embassy workers and, moreover, I hope that the Republicans fail in their attempts to make people think that President Obama can't handle foreign policy when he and SOS Clinton have been just about the only sane and competent voices on foreign policy matters during the past 4 years.
I can't even begin to say just how much of a breath of "fresh air" that President Obama has been in terms of conducting foreign policy after the complete mess (P)resident Bush II made of our country's foreign policy and international standing during his eight years, most of which was directed by the neocons whom are now advising Mitt Romney. As a matter of fact, I have no real serious issues with what I know of President Carter's term in office, particularly since he didn't get us involved in any unnecessary military conflicts, which I think is what rankles Republicans the most about President Obama. Going to war over anything and everything seems to be their predilection anymore, whether it be Syria or Iran even as they stubbornly refuse to consider the long-term ramifications of kicking over any and every anthill that they can find out there not to mention their recent history of advocating for invading Iraq.

(135,425 posts)The attempt to demonize one of the most intelligent and compassionate people on this earth is lame and desperate in the extreme. Carter was an "eat your vegetables" President in a very difficult period of time who had the unfortunate circumstance of being Commander in Chief when the Desert One fiasco (which led to increased military interoperability in future missions) happened. There is no oil embargo/crisis, yes, the economy sucks, unemployment is not good but it gets better each month, and Osama bin Ladin is STILL dead, and General Motors is very much ALIVE. Neither would be the case if a Republican were sitting in the White House.
Fuck the Republicans. They picked a shitty, crazy candidate. They're having to go back thirty five fucking years to tell lies about Carter? Talk about a reach!! Desperate fools!
