2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI am a Democrat
Over 50% of the electorate will vote Democratic. In spite of the emotional rhetoric and nastiness here 86% of the Bernie Sanders supporters will happily vote for Hillary Clinton and I believe it will be more.
Take that to the bank.

I'll never happily vote for her. Fortunately, the TOS doesn't presume to dictate my mindset at the polls, should it come to that.

Step up to the plate and take a swing.
Cary
(11,746 posts)Nonsense. I made my point. If you don't Ike it that's your problem. I have zero obligation to prove anything to you.
99Forever
(14,524 posts)You made no validated point.
That is your problem.
Cary
(11,746 posts)But your need to attack me personally for having it is sociopathic.
I addressed what you said, not you personally. You had the opportunity to PROVE your "point" and didn't do it. Instead you blather on trying to create a smokescreen for coming up empty. Now you break out the po' victim card.
So, once again, step up to the plate and prove your point or continue to prove you can't.
You're going to give me another stupid ego play?
Feh.

(57,349 posts)In epistemology, the burden of proof (Latin: onus probandi) is the obligation on a party in a dispute to provide sufficient warrant for their position.
Holder of the burden
When two parties are in a discussion and one asserts a claim that the other disputes, the one who asserts has a burden of proof to justify or substantiate that claim.

(11,746 posts)My first priority is no more Scalias, Thomas', Alitos, or Roberts'. My next proliority is to move the ball on progressive legislation and issues. My third priority is to gleefully watch "conservatives" melt down over their dysfunction and hopefully morph into something more benign.
As for the group of people who will promote "conservative" smears and b.s., I am still trying to understand that. The reaction to my post is as I expected so I am learning something.

But he will first have to convince one heckuva of a lot of Democrats in 50 state primaries to vote for him over Hillary for that to happen.

(961 posts)There's probably 1/3rd of those here who love Sanders and hate Clinton who will not vote for her, won't pretend that they are, and will leave this site and the Party. I can respect them in that they at least live what they preach. If you truly believe Clinton is a corporate stooge, then to hold your nose and vote for her automatically says you have no backbone. I want people without a backbone to leave the Party because they're a drag on everyone else.
Of the other 2/3rds, you'll have maybe half of them who will claim they will hold their nose and vote for Clinton, but they won't. This is necessary to claim because of the TOS rules at this site. If Clinton wins, then they can say they voted for her which gives them the right to object to her policies. If she loses, they get past the "purests kept the Dem from winning" accusation and can do the "we told you so" to others. Staying at this site regardless is very, very important to many members.
And really, how hard is it to not really proclaim your voting intentions in the GE on this site and get away with it? Pretty darn easy, that's how hard.
Cary
(11,746 posts)And the emotional reaction to my simple expression is evidence of extremism, disaffection, and marginalism.
Every so often, you need a purge, a time when (in Godfather terms) you go to the mattresses. In the long-term, the health of the Party would benefit. Those who are unhappy via this "too corporate" mantra need to move along and find happiness elsewhere.
I'm interested in reality, not ideology.

Just for full disclosure, I am someone who will vote for whoever seems best positioned to beat the Republican when the primaries roll around to my state. I think it will be Hillary. If it is not, I will be happy to vote for Sanders.
I've been browbeaten and banned from the Bernie group because I have said that a vote for someone other than the primary winner is a vote for Trump. But you know what? It is.

(12,081 posts)Why do we try so hard to make people do what we would do? Why do we spend so much time degrading and insulting each other just because others think or do differently than we do? It is a waste of time. There are over 7 billion people on this Earth. There will never be anything where we all think or do what everybody else does and that is okay. So you vote for who you want to vote for and I will vote for who I want to.

(11,746 posts)I don't have a crystal ball. That is true. But I do have some insight and some experience.
I have seen this at DU before. A group of people were over the top anti Obama. They made a lot of noise. They lost. They were, as it turned out, irrelevant when they could have made a difference.
I'm just seeing the same mistake being made. Yes, it's your right to be irrelevant. It's my right to see a foolish consistency as the hobgobblin of a small mind.

(11,746 posts)I am not anti-Bernie. I've eagerly listened to Bernie for many years on Thom Hartmann. I love Bernie and it'll he is the nominee I will very happily vote for him.
What I will not do is create some kind of stupid rift in our coalition the way teabaggers have done in the Republican Party.
Not only do Bernie supporters here react aggressively against my stance on this, but they pretend to not understand. You all understand. The "prove it" schtick is a really stupid game.
You all are better than this.
