2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThis is a great time for EVERYONE to see Ike's Farewell Address, especially the TeaBaggers.
Go to YouTube and keyword Eisenhower Farewell Address. Ever see it? See all 15 minutes. This is what most Republicans used to be. Generally conservative, but in a moderate and rational way. I especially like the part about how Ike talks of the virtue of "COOPERATION" between the Administration and the Congress in the national interest and how he was able to achieve that. He also warns of the dangers of the military industrial complex. He talks of the need to approach the issues in balanced and measured ways, balancing good intentions and desires with practicality and fiscal responsibility. He talks of the need to continue to make social progress, strides toward full equality, and prosperity for all. He talks of the need to care about one another, to help one another, and to respect and love one another. In other words, Ike says we are in it TOGETHER.
So the next time some rabid TeaBagger starts puking up some crazy bullshit about hating Obama, and hating government, and hating the poor, and hating the idea of compromise, and hating the very idea of togetherness and mutual responsibility, tell them, "Well, you might not know it, but you just said that you hated REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT EISENHOWER and everything he believed in. If you don't believe me, take 15 minutes and watch his farewell address on YouTube. In your radical book, you would think he was a horrible RINO socialist caver. Do that and then think about it, if you are capable."

Board of Education and to force the Arkansas National Guard to withdraw, after it was called up by Governor Faubus to prevent school integration. Bill Clinton praised Eisenhower's actions to further Civil Rights in his convention speech. If Eisenhower came back, I don't think Republicans would hesitate to swiftboat him.
