Naked ‘Mr. Big’ Causes a Stir on the Streets of Vienna

They’re not real men, of course, but posters — some of them quite explicit — advertising an upcoming exhibit entitled “Nude Men” at the city’s Leopold Museum. In response to a tradition of exhibitions focused exclusively on the naked female form, the museum’s website explains that “Nude Men” is intended to be “a long overdue exhibition on the diverse and changing depictions of naked men from 1800 to the present.” But, the museum did not foresee the public outcry over the advertising campaign for the exhibit — or over Mr. Big, a mixed-media sculpture of a reclining, completely naked man that stands some 14 feet tall and is positioned directly in front of the museum’s entrance.

lol double standards... and this is art ffs, not some lazy advertisement for chips or beer or cars

And the posing of some of the men is not quite right. I didn't see any crawling on their hands and knees, as I've seen women posed, or with fruit dangling right above their lips while blindfolded, or laying spread eagle up against a couch looking like they've been roughed up, or being held looking like it is against their will, all poses I've seen women in-- usually to sell shit.

And a full frontal offends? Please.

It's all about the male gaze. John Stoltenberg doesn't give the majority of gay porn a free pass and I don't either.

Most women and a percentage of men (God bless 'em) don't want to see people to whom they're attracted cut up into acontextual body parts and behaving like pets, prisoners, and children. Sure, I appreciate physical beauty, whatever that is (maybe I should say, the beauty of the physical), but I don't want to see people diminished because my arousal somehow only occurs when they're purposefully made less threatening.

I so agree with that. The human form, male or female can be so gorgeous. I like that we are made with circulars and curves, muscles, breasts, buttocks, calves, the curve of the small of the back of the cheek on a face.

But not of that matters when it's objectified until beauty is subsumed by sexual entitlement. It takes a hat trick to turn the beautiful into a false ideal, but it-- apparently-- takes so much more to recognize this.

i believe one man got fired from his job, being so outraged with the commercial, to have men reject it, he made a homophobic slur.

making rape as entertainment today in mainstream shows and movies because it is reality. ONLY women. we will not, do not do that with men.

starting with deadwood, bringing gratuitous frontal nudity to every day life. women ONLY. since deadwood we have had more and more and more. cause nudity is not a big deal. quit being a prude. get over it. ONLY women. though. men dont get naked? no one interested in a naked man? men do NOT want to see it so it is not equal to the gratuitous full frontal nudity of women.

it isnt a tough one. mens ego cannot handle the constant nudity and rape of their gender. they will not allow it. they do not have to deal with it. it isnt done.
