Tomorrow, and tomorrow,
and tomorrow
Creeps in this petty pace
from day to day
The last syllable of recorded time
And all of our yesterdays,
lighted fools
This way to dusty death.
Out, out brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow,
a poor player
That struts and frets
his hour upon the stage.
And then is heard no more:
it is a tale
Told by an idiot,
full of sound and fury
Signifying nothing.
i love my boy, lol
edit to clarify: Figured you needed some Shakespeare! was the rest of his message. he did not write it himself. i assumed, lol. my bad

(12,645 posts)...but it's not original. It's a famous soliloquy from Macbeth.
That's not to take anything away from her son. He seems like a very literate soul. But he isn't Shakespeare--yet.

(31,849 posts)She knows the origins of the peom; but is happy/proud that her 17 year old son, knows about the poem and can associate it with frustration.
But, because of the fatalistic tone of the poem, I would suggest texting back:
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road youre trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but dont you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Dont give up though the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victors cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when youre hardest hit
Its when things seem worst that you must not quit.

(22,871 posts)I used to tell my son,and now tell my 15 year old niece that the only time you're ever going to think about the inconsequential drama of your teenage years is when you realize ,looking back, how ridiculously absurd it was . Sometimes we have to remind our teenage kids that life is long and this is but a blip in your life. Kudos to your son for being so eloquent.

(41,989 posts)Every time I read something from Shakespeare it makes me want to go read some. But I don't know Shakespeare that well, and as someone pointed out to me, Shakespeare was written to be performed.
Which puts me in awe of anyone who can pull out a cool quote like that!
Shakespeare has the right quote for almost any situation, but it takes knowledge and a bit of talent to find them
Good on your son!
