Girls Say Yes To Boys Who Say No, 1968 (Draft-Resistance poster)

The poster features the celebrated U.S folk singer and political activist Joan Baez, along with her sisters Pauline and Mimi. They sit together on a couch, above which a slogan reads “Girls Say Yes To Boys Who Say No”.

Interesting how women's burgeoning sexual "freedom" was used directly and with willing participation here, much like current pro-choice campaigns.
I like to think there was a pivotal period of time where a women's sexuality and desirability might have headed in the direction of NOT being a commodity. I like to think that the word 'slut' was on its way to be irradicated to nothing more than a mild, gender-neutral pejorative. I like to think that choice was the most important word in ANY discussion or even simple attitude about women.

That's what I like to think.

Ha.

...to draft resistor David Harris. She married him.

Mimi's husband Ricard Farina, who died in 1966, was born in 1937 and would have been too old for the draft.

Joan wrote this about Mimi and Richard.

Though I cringe when female sexuality is presented as a commodity or a "reward".
