Man Violently Attacked for Standing Up for Women Being Catcalled

A man is in the hospital after he was attacked for defending a group of women who were being harassed on the street, according to police.

The 39-year-old Texas man (whose name has not been released) was visiting Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square on Saturday night. Police said the man observed a car of men pull up to a group of women. Via NBC Philadelphia:

The men inside the Nissan began taunting and catcalling the women, according to investigators, prompting the victim to get involved.

"The male victim took offense to something that the guys were saying to the girls and said 'hey, watch what you're saying,'" said Philadelphia Police Captain George Fuchs.

Police say one of the men inside the Nissan then got out of the car and punched the victim once in the head. The man was knocked unconscious after he fell and struck his head on the concrete.

Police say the suspect's Nissan had Delaware tags. They are currently looking through surveillance video to see if they can find the license plate number.
The man is in stable condition at a local hospital. "This is a tragic, tragic story," Captain Fuchs said. "Here's a guy trying to stick up for these girls and he gets victimized."

Good to know that there are men who are so irrationally fixated on their need to publicly demean and shame women they are willing to beat the shit out of anyone who gets in their way or dares call it into question. Great. Add another layer of fear to all the reasons why I hate catcalling.

I think it is about control and bulking up their feeling of superiority. Imo there was probably a penis problem in that car...too small or not functioning to expectations.

I think this guy who had his head bashed in is just overreacting.

Let's see if those he-men feel so brave when they're standing in front of a judge.

Suddenly the 'group of women' went to 'the girls'. If you aren't a white male in the US you aren't fully human. <sigh>

Any dude who dares to challenge it gets shut down. Unfortunately for this dude, the manly men used violence instead of the more common methods - attacking his sexuality / manhood / masculinity (cause what's worse than being likened to a female? amirite bro?)

Every chance to start a fight, they'll take it, probably spawned by their tendency to down steroids like water. They have an obsession with "proving manhood," (that is, their warped concept of manhood) by being aggressive jackasses to everyone they see.

do not allow bullying of others. There is always a risk, which is why some will avoid speaking out. Especially confronting an unruly group of men.

I truly hope that he has a full recovery. Others that have been knocked over an their heads hit the concrete have not survived. If the police catch these men, they should be charged with attempted murder. It's not like they don't know just how much damage they can do. Let's just say he wasn't touched by love, there.

The investigation may also uncover a pattern of past assaults by those criminal actors.

They must feel threatened as their privilege is contested and begins to slip away. I wonder if that is why we see so much misogyny online?
