I think we'll ultimately be ok-- the republicans will do what they've alway done-- block progress(not that that is 'ok') but with more clout. The dens are now gong to block the asinine shit the repute are going to try, and if it gets really bad, I hope Obama has his veto pen ready

Republicans have effectively controlled Congress despite not having majorities. Now that they do, I think they will try a lot. Given Obama's previous attitudes towards bipartisanship, I'm worried he may not veto everything he should in the interest of looking like he's working with them.

Not to mention, I have a bad feeling that on the state level in conservative controlled areas, things are about to get much worse. Voter suppression will hit us hard in 2016 unless we start changing that, and now. Abortion blocking bills are probably going to continue unabated. Already discriminated against groups are going to have an unpleasant ride before we can take back the legislatures.

be because of the lackluster candidates or poor organization and performance from the top. Combine that with the voter ID laws and other voter suppression methods that the Dems barely objected to and you would think the Dems wanted to lose.

This way when shitty bills are put forward the Dems can say well we made them less shitty so we're the good guys here.

it all counts. but. the interesting i think is how colorado swept repug, after pot laws and the fear. and oregon went totally liberal. with pot law to be voted on.

i have been watching the three states, cause i am interested in moving to all three.

colorado and wa were going more progressive than oregon. but, we liked oregon the best. oregon got a little closer to the two states.

I will probably always consider myself an Oregonian at heart. It's a wonderful state. I think people (at least in the western side) are fairly liberal, and then of course there's Portland. It's a good place. Our election went well this year, and I'm proud to say I got to vote for the first time for all of what we managed to pass.

I saw the comments blaming minorities. It's ridiculous. One poster managed to specifically call out blacks, hispanics, women, and youth all in one post. Of course, voter suppression had nothing to do with it. Democrats without identifiable policy stances (and certainly no spine) had nothing to do with it either. Because when in doubt, blame the minorities. It's worked rather well for the conservatives.

As for the weather, camping in the cold and rain in the PacNW is one of my favorite things. If you prepare properly, it's a blast. (Key word: if). Yeah I wonder what the snowfall is like right now. I'm hopefully going to be working as a ski instructor this year.

24. If you have an all season tent it makes it easier.
Thu Nov 6, 2014, 05:08 PM
Nov 2014

I don't, but I do have a 6 man tent perfect for me and two friends. Put a tarp on the bottom and a tarp hung properly over the top, and very little water will get near the tent, giving you a warm and dry place if needed. Thermal underwear and a water proof outer layer is all you really need to stay warm for the most part, and you can add layers as necessary.

Those two things and that's 90% of the battle. The last 10% is learning to enjoy being wet and cold when all the previous stuff doesn't work

Rainy days and snow camping are probably on my top 10 things I love doing. It can be an incredibly peaceful and enlightening experience, sitting on a rock near your camp, listening to the rain and wind and river. If you're lucky, you can get a fire started (under a tarp haha) and then there's the warmth of the fire on your back and the gentle snapping of flames. It's beautiful in ways I can't begin to describe.

The schools are pretty good, and I think it's a goid community. Admittedly the traffic has been getting worse and worse (more in the eastern part towards Portland and Beaverton), and I think the backups on 26 going into Portland are terrible. But even so, if you don't like that, going a little further west you lose all the traffic, and the forestland is nice.

I do like the Olympia area. Really, most places in the PacNW are better than almost anywhere else in the US, in my opinion. There's a spot for almost anyone.

and focused entirely on the interests of white men of means, all would be right in the world. Then of course, as one of the usual suspects insists, women wield all the political power because more of us vote. The fact that men actually hold positions of power is irrelevant. The problem is women vote, and that is responsible for the downfall of humanity, particularly the votes of single women. In the other words, the problem is those of us who actually vote for Democrats.

Don't be a wingnut (right-wing or extreme-fringe).
Democratic Underground is an online community for politically liberal people who understand the importance of working within the system to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of political office. Teabaggers, Neo-cons, Dittoheads, Paulites, Freepers, Birthers, and right-wingers in general are not welcome here. Neither are certain extreme-fringe left-wingers, including advocates of violent political/social change, hard-line communists, terrorist-apologists, America-haters, kooks, crackpots, LaRouchies, and the like.

the reason I fished these two ops out is because, as you know, when the MRAS get called out on their bs, they say "WHERE DID YOU READ THIS?" with all the fury of some Witchfinder General. Of course, they do so knowing full well that to call them out by name is a Tos violation, where they will alert. However, this op gave me an opprtinity tosimple present that these ops were and example of what this lady was saying, so that when the mras said "where did you see us doing that" she could simply show them, in which case, the mras have nothing better to do but growl.
