Admins: Any chance you could post outage info on Bluesky?

When DU went down just now, I mosied over to the DU Bluesky account hoping for an update. Might you consider that?

1. If there is ever a major, peristent outage I will use DU's existing social media accounts to update members

I'll also use our mailing list, which can be joined on the Contact page:

However, for brief downtime that is resolved quickly, it might not be practical to do that. I'd say if the site is down for multiple hours and there isn't an error message explaining what's going on when you try to connect, then look out for a social media update or an email -- or you can email me to ask what's going on ([e-mail]).

But most of the time, temporary downtimes are caused by a local Internet backbone problem or some kind of traffic issue overloading our servers, and those either clear up fairly quickly, or we're able to notify members by posting an error message. So if you're trying to get on the site and nothing's coming up, give it a bit of time, but if there aren't any updates, feel free to drop me an email.

2. Thanks. What are the existing social media accounts?

I only use Bluesky so that’s the only one I’ve seen.

3. We have a Facebook page

which I pretty much haven't used since the start of Trump's second term:

Basically the only thing I used the social media accounts for was posting my Pic Of The Moment, and I haven't been making those since Trump got re-elected because I'm sick of looking at his stupid face. Plus I hate social media

However, if we ever have a major outage, I'll post updates on those accounts, just so we can get the word out. Although, maybe not X.
