DU Community Help
Related: About this forumHi, I'm stage left.
I'm a flaming blue Democrat in the extremely red state of South Carolina. I used to be sorta of proud of my state, but Lately I'm mostly ashamed of it. It's still a beautiful state and I still love it(except in August.) It's just that it's become too much like that gorgeous cousin of yours, you know, the one on your mother's side? She looks great and then she opens her mouth.
I've been lurking here since before the last presidential race and this week I thought I'd finally edge out of the shadows a bit.
So then, enter: stage left.

(153,727 posts)I hope you will have some good times here, and learn stuff and play sometimes too.
Do explore all the groups and forums. There's lots of non-political stuff here.

(3,067 posts)NRaleighliberal,
I've noticed your posts and your gorgeous tomatoes. I've got a nephew in Durham and another in Charlotte. Both vote Democratic lately, though one won't really trumpet it around. Too many Republican business associates. I've found the trend in NC pretty sad. I was thrilled, though, at the Moral Monday protests. I think y'all will get out from under. I hope we all will.

NYC_skp. Thanks for the welcome. I've never visited the great city of NY, but my daughter and sister have. They loved it.

(10,422 posts)Hey,
Don't worry, there are a lot of us from "red" states on here. Don't be offended if your state or region gets bashed. Mine has plenty of times on here, you just have to take it sometimes and move on!
Peace

(3,067 posts)And thanks. Right now I'm less likely to get offended than bash SC right along with them. Do you think that would give the bashers pause? Where you from?

(10,422 posts)Hey,
Read a thread the other day where my state was getting hammered by a few posters, but I can deal with it. I know I'm in a red state, I just hope that everyone realizes there are pockets of sanity here. Oh yeah, and all the farmers complain about big government but sure do take those farm subsidies without much pause.
Peace
They were hammering Nebraska? Usually they reserve the severe shellacking for Southern states like mine. If I can deal with all the right wingers on my FB page I can deal with a couple of people accentuating the negative here and there. At least I can say Yay Obama and nobody's gonna shoot me down or tell me how he's the Muslim Socialist Fascist Commie Antichrist. And that's really, really nice. It's been though, strangely quiet on my FB, except for my also flaming Dem sister who's really rubbing their noses in it and having a good old time.

(39 posts)I'm a flaming blue Democrat too. From a blue state- Washington.
Unfortunately, I have a useless Republican Representative.
I am doing everything I can to make sure that changes in the next election.
I hope you have fun here at DU!

(3,067 posts)And thanks for the welcome. I also have a useless Republican Representative and 2 useless Republican Senators, though little Lindsey Graham surprised the hell out of me by voting yea on the bill to raise the debt limit.
I am brand new here, and like you - stuck in a Red district.
I tried to make an introduction topic, but it seems you need some kind of a post count to do so.

(12 posts)Appreciate the clarification. Yea, I have been looking for a place to post where expressions of progressive ideology isn't met with being called every name in the book by our opposition.

(3,067 posts)In this past election people would ask me on face book why I was so full of hate...and then unfriend me. That was when Rmoney's little 47% comment came out. I think I mighta got a little vehement about what a rat he was.....is. .

(3,067 posts)Welcome to DU from a fellow newbie. What state are you in? Or are you just in a red part of a blue state? Anyway, Hey!

(12 posts)Ohio goes both ways, sometimes at the same time!
This district I am in here in the southern part of the state is a heavily gerrymandered district. Republicans hold the state government and at the last redraw of the districts, carved up the area I live into being hopelessly Red. Worse, we got a large Tea Party here about. Campaigning here for our side is a harrowing experience indeed.

(3,067 posts)SC has gerrymandered districts, too. Especially the first district where Mark(I was just hiking the Appalachian Trail)Sanford was just elected. I wonder sometimes what Republicans in SC have to do to not get elected. If they were convicted of murder would that work?
