Getting back to the proposed book club,

I'm reading Adrian House's Francis of Assisi. It's scholarly in the sense that it's amply documented, but the research apparatus has all been shoved into the back of the book where it won't impede the reader. The style is fluent and reads comfortably. Would anyone else be interested in making this a book club selection? Cbayer and ST can "report from the scene" if they're willing.

I never heard the term "research apparatus" before but it makes perfect sense.

I have just returned to the states, but learned a great deal about Frances while in the Rieti area.

Let me see if I can download it or order it to be delivered while I am in the US.

Great idea!

The further I get into his life, the more I understand why Pope Francis chose his name and how he is modelling himself after the little friar from Assisi.

Let me see if I can download the book, because that would be a good place to start reading it.

and a number of used copies. In my experience their "used--like new" and "very good" categories are just that--almost indistinguishable from new.

You can order it from Amazon. I think I will go ahead and do that, as I can only get delivery for the next couple of weeks.

I just stepped down from mirt. Part of the reason is my parents have a large amount of doctor visits in the next few weeks. I go to all appointments with them and this will take up some of my time. They are fine but tests are coming up.

But also as you know i have limited my posting here as well. I burned myself out and i need to continue my break.

I want everyone to know that I don't know when i will start posting ops again. I am around and I am reading du every day so if hosting issues come up let me know.

but making the rounds of the doctors is stressful. Take your time and take care of yourself.

Also a break from DU is needed from time to time.
