Bangladesh Islamist Ghulam Azam found guilty of war crimes
A war crimes court has found Islamist Ghulam Azam guilty of five charges relating to Bangladesh's 1971 war of independence with Pakistan.
Ghulam Azam was sentenced to 90 years in jail for his involvement in mass killings and rape during the war.
Supporters of Bangladesh's main Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami party, which he led from 1969 until 2000, clashed with police ahead of the verdict.

Ghulam Azam gets 90 years
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) 1 on Monday awarded Jamaat-e-Islami former Ameer Ghulam Azam, who has been charged on five accounts, 90 years imprisonment .
The three-member ICT 1 pannel led by Justice ATM Fazle Kabir pronounced the operative part of the verdict considaring his old age.
Prosecutor Ziad Al-Malum said: "Tribunal said Ghulam Azam should get capital punishment but considering his age, we are sentencing him to 90 years in jail."
In his sudden reaction, defence counsel Saifur Rahman said : "We believe the verdict is not appropriate. We will appeal against the verdict. "

The 91-year-old Ghulam Azam has been found guilty by the war crimes tribunal of all five charges – incitement, conspiracy, planning, abetment and failure to prevent murder.
For the first two charges he was given 20 years, for the third and fourth 20 years each and for the fifth another 30 years in a judgment delivered Monday afternoon.
Azam will serve “consecutively”, said presiding judge Justice A T M Fazle Kabir.
