Valerie Perrine, an Oscar-nominated actress who performed opposite Dustin Hoffman's Lenny Bruce in 1974's "Lenny" and starred in Christopher Reeve's "Superman" films, has died. She was 82.
Perrine "passed away peacefully at her home on March 23, 2026, surrounded by love, exactly as she had wished," according to Stacey Souther, director of the 2019 documentary short "Valerie."
The Galveston, Texas-born actress a former Las Vegas showgirl who eventually made her way to Hollywood was also known for film roles in 1972's "Slaughterhouse-Five" and 2000's "What Women Want." Her TV characters included Cookie, the mother of Dr. Susan Lewis (Sherry Stringfield) in "ER," and a 1998 episode of "Walker, Texas Ranger."

(55,032 posts)1985, with Michael Caine, and I think the first movie I rented for VCR viewing, "Water".
Don't know if they ever mastered and released a DVD, haven't looked in awhile. The kind of movie I'd like to see again but not pay 20 bucks to buy a copy.

Not to mention the actress playing the horndog secretary was also the voice for Ma Otter from Emmett Otter's Jug Band Christmas.
