I watched "Zone of Interest" last night on Max. It was a strange, yet powerful movie. I visited

Auschwitz -Birkenau, a few years ago, and was overwhelmed by emotion and horror. While I understand the goal of this film was to show how German people tried to live their lives by ignoring those horrors, I thought it was confusing in places and left me wondering what was happening with Rudolf Hoss at the end. I did not care for the long periods of color-only screens nor the 'music' during the credits. At first, I thought Max wasn't streaming and restarted the thing.

The scenes shot in the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum made me wonder whether I could ever be a part of the cleaning crew or if I would become desensitized to the dehumanization of the victims. I think that was the main point of the film: to make us ponder our relationship to the human cruelties happening around us today.

What were your thoughts?

Would I have ignored it? I'll never forget telling a Jewish friend that I wanted to visit Auschwitz to feel how horrible it was. She said, "I can never go there. Too many of my family died there."

So, there was the movie with a family living next door and living the good life. But, that was true of many at the time. I don't know.

In every city I am in I walk by the homeless. Who am I?

I guess I'll watch it, but having read what it's about, I don't think I'll enjoy it very much.
