DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) Deborah Gilbert accepts that the end of her life is coming soon.
As far as a timeline, Gilbert says, I have a few doctors who dont expect me to be alive now.
Theres just really no telling.
Sitting in her northwest Davenport living room on a freezing, overcast Tuesday, she speaks matter-of-factly about the business of dying.
I plan to donate my remains to pathology at the University of Iowa, she says, and theyve been very anxious that I get those papers signed because they really need to have those things back before something were to happen to me.
...
She and her husband, Ralph, support Bernie Sanders.
Hes made us realize there are things that are so important, and theyre not hard to understand, Gilbert says.
Hes just made this election more personal.
Even before her cancer diagnosis, Gilbert was struggling as she and Ralph are both disabled and on Medicare.
We need to know our Medicare will be safe, she says.
