I just watched Colbert from last night and his guest was Bill O'Reilly. During the course of their conversation they started talking about Bernie's plan for free public education and of course B.O. poo-pooed it saying it was impossible to fund. Colbert said, "They do it in Denmark." To which B.O.'s reply was, "There's only 6 million people in Denmark."
So ... because of a low population, a free education is possible. But if you think about it, it also means that the proportion of students to tax payers makes B.O.'s argument moot. So what if Denmark only has a population of 6 million ... it's all relative.
I do not have the time at the moment to crunch numbers but using "logic" it seems to me it would be that any time someone tries imply that it could not be done here due to our "Yooog" population, the debate can end in our favor.

(34,119 posts)working for the greater good is not popular among some of us? It fails the logic test to me when people fight this rather than embracing it and saying yes, we must figure a way. Of course this was Bill O.

(710 posts)You are fighting against greed and the individual ego, which is thr main driver of capitalism and the appeal libertarianism. Putting the needs and benefits of other people above your own well being is a tough sell, especially in America, where rugged individualism is celebrated.
Its an upward climb and a hard slog, but things are starting to change...
