Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumRachel Maddow just spent an entire segment trashing Bernie. Anyone else see it?
She showed the enormous crowds at all his events today, talked about how jam packed they were & left 100s of people outside unable to get in.
But they were in red states so they don't matter.
Why was he not in SC? He wrote it off.
How is he going to have enough delegates to win? He won't.
He talks about making it all the way to the convention, what is he going to do there?
Then she had Kasey Hunt on, the "Bernie correspondent" for msnbc.
Kasey, does Bernie really think he is going to win?
Why is he in these red states?
I haven't watched her for a week. I thought I missed her, but boy was I wrong.
ughhhhh! I just had to vent.

(38,613 posts)That role often becomes merely a professional strawman. A misrepresenter, you might say.
If Kasey Hunt is employed by Comcast/MSNBC then I have no reason to listen to her.

(1,573 posts)...because as soon as Rachel finished about the large crowds that Bernie was drawing, and started talking about "red states" I said to my SO that she was getting ready to segue into how Bernie's crowds didn't mean anything, and I left the room. (I hate TV.) From others' comments in this thread, I guess I was right.
Oh, and it royally pissed me off at the beginning of the segment where she talked about "firsts" in elections, she made no mention of the fact that Bernie was the first Jew to win a major party primary.
jillan
(39,451 posts)to run for President while being under investigation - there was not one single word about Hillary.
She was also talking about how Dems are having such bad turnout this year compared to 2008. She forgets that not only was Obama a superstar in our party - we were also hyped up to get rid of W & that added to the excitement of the 2008 primary.
Listen to me bitch - lol. No more Rachel for me.

(1,013 posts)She showed today's Bernie rallies and spoke about the crowds showing up for him in red states.
She then said imagine if this were happening on the republication side we all would be saying
"Wow, someone is competitive with Trump, hmmm". Quote is close from what I heard.

(41,140 posts)along with the attacks engineered by scum David Brock. No, no, Bernie's campaign and momentum are very strong despite some in the news world asking or claiming that the Bern has slowed. Also, in recent national polls like Quinippiac and others, Sanders is doing very well and beats Trump and everybody! His positives--clean record, honesty, competence and likability are very high.

*UNLESS THE DEMOCRATS RUN SANDERS, A TRUMP NOMINATION MEANS A TRUMP PRESIDENCY*: Democrats Need to Seriously and Pragmatically Assess Their Strategy for Defeating Trump, by Nathan J. Robinson, Current Affairs Magazine, Feb. 23, 2016.

-FULL ARTICLE, Current Affairs Magazine:http://static.currentaffairs.org/2016/02/unless-the-democrats-nominate-sanders-a-trump-nomination-means-a-trump-presidency
<snip> *Some in the MEDIA have rushed to declare Sanderss campaign moribund in the wake of his recent loss in Nevada. This is absurd; after all, out of 50 states, only three have voted, one being a tie, one being a major Sanders win, and one being a small Clinton win. The media has dishonestly pointed to Hillary Clintons higher SUPERDELEGATE count as evidence of her strong lead, despite knowing full well that superdelegates are highly unlikely to risk tearing the party apart by taking the nomination out of voters hands, and are thus mostly a formality.
The PRESS has also crafted a narrative about Sanders SLIPPING BEHIND, ignoring the fact that Sanders has been behind from the very start; not for a moment has he been in front. But even if it was correct to say that Sanders was starting to lose (instead of progressively losing less and less), this should only motivate all Democrats to work harder to make sure he is nominated. Ones support for Sanders should increase in direct proportion tone's fear of Trump.

(3,017 posts)Bernie was there again this afternoon. One would think the Bernie correspondent would know that.
So Bernie did a speech in SC on Sunday night (which I attended), the SC Town Hall on Tuesday night, a short event on Wednesday morning in SC and a short talk on poverty followed by a brief press conference in SC this afternoon. The press conference was one question after another asking him how could he win, when would he drop out, etc.
Bernie is speaking to huge crowds and Hillary is traveling around the country meeting with small hand picked groups and using the family of shooting victims as props.

(15,805 posts)but I had a totally different take. It seemed that she was remarking on his campaign presence in locales that others would have given up on, making him something of a gutsy exception to the norm (not at all a departure for Sanders). I thought she was simply examining the effectiveness of his campaign in areas where the opposite would be assumed, an examination neatly summed up in her closing remark. She's a lifelong student, she studies things. I still find her refreshing and informative, a very welcome departure from broadcasting's norm.

(3,544 posts)then I am not at all surprised. I'm guessing that the "corrupt" corporate media has finally laid down the law of the land for her. I expect more will follow. Just more proof that the oligarchs are alive and well.
They must be stopped. We must elect a president for the people and replace everyone in Congress. And only WE can do it. If we leave it to the establishment politicians, it will NEVER get done.

(3,937 posts)When they talk about you but not to you. When they create a false frame and use it to further a false narrative, it is Swiftboating.
When John Kerry was being Swiftboated by CNN I wanted to know why the Kerry campaign was not calling in during the live broadcasts. I know Reagan dumped the Fairness Doctrine but it is hard for a so-called news organization NOT to talk a live call from the person they are discussing.
Maddow's show is taped so the Sanders campaign could record a clip and send it in. Sanders himself responding and asking questions. If Maddow's show wouldn't air it, release it to social media.
The Sanders campaign is extremely well run. Best scoring ads and an excellent sense of timing. They called out Donald Trump on Sunday and tried to get a Trump vs Sanders battle going this week. Trump didn't bite but a great strategy nonetheless.

(213 posts)We began to see a drift away from what we had always admired. - great interviews with probing questions; though a liberal, "fair and balanced" reporting; and well timed and thorough exposes. She was to us what a top notch journalist should be. No longer. We don't watch her or anyone else on MSNBC any more. In fact, we watch only national news at 6:30, and that mainly to see what the latest alarming weather headline is. We'll be cutting the cord as soon as I can get my husband weaned off CNBC for stock info. I mourn the loss of Rachel, Chris Hayes (though he seems to be trying to stay true to his core - knew he was on the downward slope with his new hair style and suit and tie), Ed Schultz and Alex Wagner.
