This was a Social Security Works rally, the sixth in a series celebrating the anniversaries of Social Security and Medicare, fallout from the 2010 Catfood Commission. It would have gone on had Sanders not answered an invitation to be there. The SSW moderators on the stage made the decision to hand over the mic. Sanders politely agreed to hang around and listen, until he had to leave for another event between the rally and the large Sanders rally at UW.
