When Did We Become a Nation of Cowards?

I watched Bernie on his town hall on Thursday, was very impressed with him by the way, and after watching Tweety keep hitting him with the same question something occurred to me. Basically there was a 10 minute exchange of "how are you going to get anything done?" Bernie kept trying to answer but it was never enough. Even though its been said before it is this mantra of its so hard so why even try.

We used to be a nation of doers and dreamers. A nation of firsts. Now, all I hear is its too hard. You'll never get the votes. There is too much gridlock. Man, if that had been the can do spirit since the beginning our history would of been a lot different.

George Washington would have capitulated and laid down arms, fighting the British is just too difficult. I mean look how well armed and trained they are.

Abraham Lincoln freeing the slaves? Rubbish, who would vote for that? He certainly shouldn't even fight for something since its a non-starter.

Teddy Roosevelt walked softly and compromised. Break up trusts? A network of national parks? What unicorn nonsense is this?

FDR and the New Deal? The Republicans hate all the Socialist talk, nothing will ever get through. The bully pulpit certainly won't work, no point in those fireside chats.

JFK and the moon program? Nah, the Russians are too far ahead and its too expensive. Lets worry about small changes, only things that we know we can do should be tried.

No women's suffrage, no civil rights movement, no gay rights, no workers movement. All so hard, ought not to even bother.

Is this what we have been reduced to? No big ideas allowed. No change is too small. There was a time when we thought great things were worth fighting for. That the struggle increased its worth. I'm sick of the defeatist attitude of "No we can't!" Well you know what, No we can't stand one more minute of this and I choose to fight. And, if you are to defeatist to join, I'll fight for you too. I'm an American, and I will not be told what we can't do anymore! Enough is Enough! Thank you Bernie for helping us to fight again.

Isn't it funny that no one ever asks that question to republicans?

They can either obstruct or we compromise so much they get most of what they want anyway. Case in point the ACA, the repubs may whine about it but I'm sure their insurance company backers like it just fine.

That's why I'm so thankful for Bernie. He seems to be the only politician with any political courage. That makes him a statesman, and definitely worthy of our votes.

A lot of us were beaten down by that and dropped out for a long time. We need to make it work this time. We need to follow the dream.

They took our courage by the barrel of a gun. Is it any wonder why we are awash in guns now? I was born after all the killings, watching my country decay. Crying out for a leader. If not now, when? Although I worry constantly about Bernie and small planes or lone nuts.

and the PIC (police/prison industrial complex) convinced Americans to solve their problems with one finger.

Everything else just falls into line after that.

Gun manufactures, prison companies, gated communities. Keep us apart and fearful. Makes us easy to control.

GWB recently blurted out that part of his job as (fake) President was to "keep expectations low" and that is the end product of fear. The response of Team Clinton to Sanders' rise has been to stoke fears and keep expectations low ("can't win&quot .

Adam Curtis nailed it here:

I think we are getting tired of fear though. The end result of stoking endless fear is that you become somewhat immune to it.

This seems like a question best asked of the HRC group, perhaps in the form of a poll. But you've hit on one of the major divides in this primary.

Preaching to choir here. I don't like posting there because I don't like being attacked. They seem to like new ideas there as much as they like idealists and massive change in our country.

Propaganda in our everyday lives. Be afraid, be afraid. It is drummed into us and it is sad.
