Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumWoo HOOO Bernie! Bernie is going to do a town hall on FOX! Hillary declined. He's going.
This is so awesome. I am so proud of him. We already know has cross-over appeal.
And he doesn't give a crap if they try to trip him up. You can't shake him. He has nothing to hide. He is who he is and who he always has been. And he makes no apologies about it.

FIRST DRAFT
Fox News to Host Live Event With Bernie Sanders
A day before the Michigan primary on Tuesday, Senator Bernie Sanders will be the focus of a live one-hour, prime-time event in Detroit.
The host? Fox News.
Bret Baier announced on his Special Report show on Thursday night that the Sanders campaign had agreed to the town-hall-style broadcast. The Clinton campaign was invited, but is unable to attend due to a conflict in her campaign schedule, according to a release from the network.
While Mr. Sanderss appearance on Fox News isnt necessarily out of the ordinary he sat for an interview with Chris Wallace in February on Fox News Sunday the networks decision to host a Democratic town hall is notable, given that it hasnt put on a Democratic debate since 2004.
Last month, Mr. Baier pressed Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, to let Fox News host a debate.
She laughed at the prospect, giving little hope that such an event would ever take place.
There arent a whole lot of Democrats who come on, and I always look forward to our conversations, Bret, look forward to sparring with you and some of your hosts all the way through the campaign, Ms. Schultz said to Mr. Baier.
In his interview with Mr. Wallace, however, Mr. Sanders said he wasnt opposed to the idea of a Fox town hall.
If we were clear to understand what the guidelines were and what the rules were and to make sure that they were fair and the D.N.C. was in favor of it, I would have no objection, Mr. Sanders said.
The town hall with Mr. Sanders will be broadcast at 6 p.m., Eastern time.
I can't wait!!
Edit to add - pass it on! Make sure they know at JPR - your facebook friends - your twitter followers. This is a bfd - especially with the pugs being so unhappy with their choices

(10,271 posts)If you don't show up to play the game, you loose by default. He gets that universal healthcare isn't just for blue-state liberals, (because UNIVERSAL, duh!) and that if coal country employees can go to work in solar panel factories instead of mines then WestVirginia mountaintops can NOT look like something out of a post-apocolyptic Hellscape-nightmare.
But you don't get to tell people that if you dont SHOW UP.
And yes, someone will complain that this is about rural white (male) voters. That's ok. That BY ITSELF does not negate the importance of issues raised by not those people. But this the DEMOCRATIC Party, and what we care about should effect EVERYONE, and if those aren't the issues were knocking on doors for, then what we're doing isn't important and we're just wasting our time here.

(10,493 posts)If he gets his message out there enough, it makes it harder to attack. Democratic socialist doesn't seem like the boogie man.
Republican implosion is great for left liberals.

(39,451 posts)okay with the DNC.
I'm sure they are going to ask him tough questions. Socialism. Raising taxes. Stuff like that. Looking for things to use against him in the GE and I bet you anything they really wanted Hillary to add to their arsenal.
But Bernie can handle them. They'll challenge him and he'll respond.
I think it's great.

(1,178 posts)I suspect they think that there is little upside to this. Hillary won't get Republican voters and not so many independents so the Fox audience doesn't provide much opportunity. If Fox gets some good clips they will throw them at her if she is the nominee. I think she will be in safe mode unless Bernie starts kicking butt in the upcoming primaries.

(10,493 posts)And he's already showing he can pull them at the polls. That's not so great for her if she refuses to face them. then again, that could be the answer, too.

(23,867 posts)the debacle this last republican debate was, the timing couldn't be better.
The republicans demonstrating they're capable of tearing into each other like hyenas vs. Sanders providing some sane and well-reasoned policy points and goals. Nothing would demonstrate the difference between the two parties better.

The townhall is when the host sits down one on one with the candidate.
The DNC rules only apply to actual debates, not townhalls.

Hopefully Sanders will do better. IMO the democrats should stay far away from Fox.

(10,271 posts)Anything that sounds remotely sane, even if it's a Liberal kind of Sanity, makes trump look like more unhinged and unelectable, which only helps anyone who ALSO sounds Sane (cruz, RUBIO).
The Base won't have it, but the paid puppets still have to earn their keep now, don't they???
Half of me thinks the Establishment (especially the Senate) would rather bite the bullet and throw the election than see the Frankenstien monster they built wipe out the village of idiots they created. If Trump loses, they can scold the base back into accepting the decisions of their betters, without shouldering any of the blame.
Whatever, the more Bernies message gets out there, the better. I don't really CARE how.
Go, Bernie, GO!
This is actually pretty surprising. I'm surprised he was invited. And equally surprised that it accepted. I'll be watching this for sure.

(1,508 posts)It appears Wasserman-Shultz has been doing everything she can to throw the election and Clinton appears to be flip flopping on all the issues there are. I've heard many say we need more women in government, especially feminist, but these two women? I don't think so. I've seen crooked politicians in my day, and some of the things they are doing lead me to believe I just may be seeing two more.
