The endorsement headline is way better in Arabic.
(Here's the endorsement in English in case anyone missed it a few days ago: http://www.arabamericannews.com/news/news/id_11885/We-endorse-Bernie-Sanders.html)
The Arab American News has a circulation of something like 20,000 in MI, so it's nothing to sneeze at. That being said, I'm unsure as to whether newspaper endorsements still carry any more weight among immigrant communities than they do for the rest of the nation these days (that is: very little weight).

(1,021 posts)Besides, most of my Arabic is limited to the kind of language skills you would need to read 1,000-year-old texts on procedural Islamic law. The vocabulary for modern stuff like this is totally different. Better to let a native speaker handle it.

If we get President Sanders, as I hope we do, there should be Jewish Americans joining Arab and Muslim Americans hand in hand to press Sanders, and I know a few who would...To press Sanders on pressing Israel, on Palestinian rights and more. Sanders to be honest isn't good in these areas..
But the reason he's not good in these areas, is not because he's Jewish...it's for the same reason he can't call Saudi Arabia a "dictatorship" openly and call for cutting all military sales to it. It's the military industrial complex and long time "allies" (Israel, Saudis, Turkey, Bahrain etc) and Sanders must tread carefully..but he's far less hawkish and saner than Clinton (faint praise) and Sanders can be pushed further in a positive direction
So is the idea of Jews and Arabs (and Muslims) joining hands in peace to push the country in a progressive direction a pipe dream?
Even holding joint demonstrations on the same side of the protest banner?
Never gonna happen, you say?
It's happened already on other issues:
That photo makes me smile every time. Dang I hope the Arab newspapers have seen that photo

(83 posts)After he finally won a congressional seat in 1990, Sanders was still willing to use his new platform to advance his long-held views. But the longer he stayed in Congress and the higher he climbed, the less he spoke out against Israeli abuses of Palestinian rights.
I have a problem with appropriating $2 billion dollars to Egypt and $3 billion dollars to Israel. Lets take care of some of the problems we have at home first, Sanders argued on the House floor in 1991
More recently, however, Sanders has not called for cuts in aid to Israel as a form of pressure. Instead, he has fully endorsed US aid to Israel, while expressing hope that more economic aid to Israel and Egypt, as well as the Palestinians, could displace some military aid in an unspecified future.
The Sanders campaign did not respond to a question from The Electronic Intifada about whether a Sanders White House would still be willing to leverage US military aid to compel Israel to abide by international law.
In 2011, the Senate passed a resolution calling on the UN to rescind the Goldstone report, which found evidence of war crimes during Israels 20082009 bombing campaign in Gaza.
While some have credited Sanders for supposedly opposing this resolution, there was no recorded vote. The measure was passed by unanimous consent a procedure which means no senator moved to block it, call for debate or for a roll call, not even Sanders.

They note he's way better than average and better than Obama though:
One aspect of such evenhandedness can be found on Sanders campaign website, where he seems to hold both sides equally responsible, ignoring the vast power imbalance between Israel, as a US-armed occupier and colonizer, and Palestinians who live under its military rule.
But in the United States of 2016, even a call for evenhandedness on these terms is outside the mainstream.
And lukewarm though his positions are, he has gone far beyond anything uttered by Barack Obama, who many mistakenly believed, despite all the evidence, would support Palestinian rights when he became president.
Sanders calls on Israel to end the blockade of Gaza, and cease developing settlements on Palestinian land, making him one of the only US senators to do so.

(73 posts)Not only Arab communities, but Islamic communities too. I know for a fact that Arabs in MI can deliver 10K + votes in MI. You just need to get them out to vote.
In NJ Arabs can deliver about 10K too. In FL and CA even more. If you total the Islamic communities too, it is way more than 10K. I strongly suggest to get some Arabs and Muslims to work on those communities to get them out to vote. Volunteers or full time staff who are Arab/Muslims. They know the details, and they know how to motivate the community and they know the culture.
I know that more than 90% of the Arab/Islamic communities are for Sanders.

We know he would think twice about using drones to blow up a wedding party to get one guy.
i think the american ppl are against drones too, or would be if they could stop worrying about our pressing domestic issues.
i don't know what the fuck we're doing in the middle east now but it's probly over the top and causing too many civilian casualities. war is bad.

(73 posts)I can see myself supporting drone strikes under certain conditions. I definitely support drone strikes like the one done against the Wahhabi Al Shabab Somali terrorist groups. Somali Al-Shabab are among the worst vicious terrorists.
What I don't support is when drone strikes are blind. They take a lot of innocent lives along with taking the life of a lowly scum of the earth ISIS or Al Qaida operative or leader.
