1. Skinner's description of what is at stake

is the only reason I'm still leaning toward voting for Clinton if she's the nominee.

I wasn't that way when the primaries began. In other words, I supported Bernie but was more than ready to vote for Clinton. That has waned over the course of the primary for various reasons, one of which has been the ugliness here at DU.

That's why I'm diminishing my time here. If I'm going to be able to vote for her in November (assuming that's the ticket), I need to keep a wide distance between me and many of her supporters here.

What's at stake is a sinking ship anyway, the status quo is unsustainable. It would behoove us to create a solution, a better way using the infrastructure that I believe will remain intact, rather than try to cobble together a temporary quick fix that is sure to fail eventually. We have a rare opportunity right now, the alternative doesn't have to be chaotic. What's at stake is actually bigger than a false sense of security, it's the whole kit and caboodle. Security won't mean squat when that time comes.

and I have to wonder just how viable our electoral system is anymore.

I want to put more of my energy into real-world solutions, but I may still participate in the election if only to cast a vote against Trump (assuming Bernie won't be the nominee).

I'm more about building on the movement that Bernie has built when the election's over, regardless of who "wins".

I agree completely. I'm just not there yet, it's still primary season. I'm not giving up on a Bernie win until he tells me to. That's my role for now.

What I think building on the movement will be is akin to building replacement parts. Or whole new parts, for that matter. Hard to say where I'll be.

I love your posts.

Regarding your conversations with Skinner, I feel exactly the same way as you. My red state will never go for either Bernie or Hillary, so my vote won't make a difference. So why should I hold my nose and vote for a candidate who is Republican-lite, at best? I would love to write in Bernie's name, but in Louisiana there is no way to do a write-in. I have not made up my mind 100%, but I will probably vote for Jill Stein. No matter what I do, my state will go to Drumpf.

They love Drumpf in these parts, the Bernie supporters would mostly choose Drumpf. One guy I talked to was on the fence between Bernie and Drumpf for the primary this week. He is never going with a dem in the general unless it's Bernie.

My blue vote is not going to matter one iota unless people like him go blue as well. There are a lot of them.

it will not matter who I vote for either. The Democratic candidate will get the electoral votes from my state.
I am therefore considering a third party candidate. Perhaps they can get enough votes to get some federal money.

--vote for Drumpf. I've also heard "no more Clintons" from a couple of people phonebanking (targeting Demds and Dem-leaning independents) The sentiment is not specifically directed toward Hillary. Not too common among Democrats, but a lot more so among independents--who are now 40% of the electorate.

I guess what Skinner was telling you was that you will have to fall in line and back the lesser of two evils, even if they BOTH are evil.

My own personal plan is to keep my mouth shut about the presidential race if, on the off chance Clinton is the nominee.
I shall continue to fight for Democratic candidates who are down ticket, ESPECIALLY Zephyr Teachout, who is running for Congress in my district in NY.

We are the moron Red state that comes just after yours in assbackwardness. My idiot in-laws residing in your state are Trump fans.

My vote matters little too. DU will be about the nominee, if it's Clinton. Not sure what they would do here if Bernie ends up being on top. If she wins the primary, I suspect she will be the next president. Not because she is female, and not because she "earned" it.

It's will be because the Repubs can't trust Trump to do their bidding for the wealthiest. As repulsive as he is, I don't think he can be bought.

The Republicans will end up voting for her. Kind of fitting, I think.

Once he's on their turf, Trump can probably be controlled. Not bought, but controlled.
