Very brief article on crowd expectations for the Madison Rally on Wednesday. Looks like it could be a big one!:
POSTED 11:06 AM, JUNE 30, 2015, BY AP WIRE SERVICE
MADISON Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders says 9,500 people have said they plan to attend his rally on Wednesday night in Madison.
The Vermont senator said during a conference call Tuesday that he will draw on Wisconsins long progressive political history during the event. Sanders says he believes the progressive movement that existed for years in Wisconsin is now spreading throughout the country.
The Sanders visit comes just a couple weeks before Republican Gov. Scott Walker is expected to launch his campaign for president.
Sanders says he is strongly opposed to Walkers agenda and the country needs new leadership that expands opportunities for working families and strengthens trade unions.

(9,126 posts)The people who protested (including teachers and public sector workers) should all be out in force. A big middle finger to Walker.

(9,126 posts)I think the national organization will endorse Clinton, but perhaps the states individually will go for Bernie. They should follow Vermont's lead and do it now. But everyone is still afraid she is inevitable and they don't want to get burnt. Not that it helped them AT ALL with Obama.

(62,325 posts)which promised them so much and then went with Bush's policies of denigrating and blaming them for everything, and privatizing Public Schools.
I would be surprised if they went with Hillary whose policies are more than likely to mirror Obama's on Education.
However, if many of the states do what Vt did, even if they wanted to go with what they view as the 'safe' choice, they may have to actually represent the teachers nationally.

(9,126 posts)They are as entrenched in Washington as any poll. That is the problem. I hope I am wrong. I hope the states don't follow.
But I found this article VERY interesting. Her rich donors are telling her to pick a side. I wonder if the Clintons can keep them quiet as she channels Warren on the trail. Hope they run their mouths as much as possible.

(62,325 posts)will just have the same results. Note that the article was written when 'Hillary has no strong challenger for the primaries'.
Eg, I read recently that Black Leaders have condemned Common Core which aligns them also with the Teachers' Unions across the nation.
What a difference a few months make. The article stated she 'had time with no strong challenger'. Well that was then, this is now. And she does not have time, as the endorsement of the Vt Teachers Union shows.
Bernie has been direct about his position on education. No reason why any candidate needs all this time to decide how bad NCLB has been for students and for the Public Schools. We've had more than a decade to witness the failure of Common Core.
BrotherIvan
(9,126 posts)If I were still teaching, that would get my vote right there. Anyone who thinks Clinton won't continue the privatization of education is fooling themselves big time.
P.S. Have you heard anything concrete about Biden jumping in because that is worrisome. I don't doubt that he too would be financed by them to take Sanders out.

Bernie is strong with the student population in Madison.
Can't wait to see how big the crowd is. I bet it will be his biggest so far.

(70 posts)Not sure why they would estimate 9,500. Wait, I do know. It's Fux News. Seems an odd figure, would you not say? Can they really estimate in that hundredths place? Methinks not. Seems they did not want to go over the magic 10k mark, so they made it up. Made it as close as they can. Fux News.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)that since not everyone RSVPs and many will just walk in when they hear about it.

(70 posts)I probably spoke to soon. Wonder if Fux will report the final number, if over 10k. Sometimes media is sly with details.

Sanders, who announced his candidacy on May 26, has been drawing large crowds at events around the country. So far, more than 9,000 people have RSVPed to Wednesday nights even at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Alliant Energy Center, his campaign said.
The venue's capacity is just over 10,000.
I think its possible that the turnout well have will be, in fact, the largest turnout that weve had in the campaign so far, Sanders said...

(32,068 posts)a lot of students stay in Madison over the summer (they actually have a lot of classes along with sailing!) ... plus proximity to Milwaukee and Chicago. I don't think that's unreasonably high to hope for.

(5,614 posts)It is unwise to predict a huge turnout. If it happens it happens. If it doesn't happen all of the pundits will point out how the campaign failed to turn out the numbers, etc., etc. Sort of like sex, in a way. If you don't perform as expected you'll be sure to hear about it.

(3,431 posts)be careful with those numbers. Bernie's campaign
got over 9,000 RSVPs in Denver, yet only about
6,000 showed up. I hope for more, but I have become
a bit cautious.
Still, if 6-7,000 show up, it will be more than any
other candidate has achieved.

(11,641 posts)might have kept some people from making it to the event.
The Madison venue is said to hold a little over 10,000 and hopefully parking is better there.
It's still awesome to see Bernie drawing these large crowds. Hopefully it will hit the 9k to 10k numbers.
