edited to add:

BREAKING: Today, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders introduced an amendment to the Senate's water infrastructure bill that would require the US Army Corps to complete a full Environmental Impact Statement on the pipeline's Missouri River crossing before issuing the final easement.

That last easement is part of the Mineral Lease Act and is required before the company can receive the drill bore on US Army Corps land on the west side of the river. It has been approved by the US Army Corps of Engineers but not yet submitted to the 2 congressional committees it must pass before being issued. (The company has all the permits and easements they need to drill on the east side of the river, and the drill site has been prepared).

Bernie also plans to speak at a Tuesday #NoDAPL protest in front of the White House. To our knowledge he has not yet spray-painted any heavy equipment used in the pipeline construction process.

Obama stepped in to put a stop to it until the NEPA assessment is completed. Not the end of the issue, but at least a procedural delay.
