Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumCheers, Whistles and Bernie Chants greet Sanders at Boston Rally
Amid cheers, whistles, and chants of Bernie, US Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont called for the Democratic party to recast itself as the party of the working class, rather than the liberal elite during a political rally Friday night in Boston
And when we do that, when we transform the Democratic Party, we transform America, the former presidential candidate told a 1,600-person audience in Orpheum Theater. Because ... on every major point facing this country, the American people do not believe in a right-wing agenda. They believe in a progressive agenda.
Sanders, an Independent senator from Vermont who caucuses with the Democrats, told the crowd filled with young supporters that he plans to introduce legislation on Monday that would make public colleges and universities tuition free.
Now people say, Well, Bernie its an expensive proposition,... it costs a lot of money, and its true, it does, he said. How are we going to pay for it? I will tell you exactly and gleefully how were going to pay for it. Were going to put a tax on Wall Street speculation.
The announcement was greeted with a standing ovation and another round of Bernie chants.

(45,098 posts)1. I still agree with Bernie on what American needs.
We need a Democratic party that is not a party of the liberal elite but of the working class of this country, we need a party that is a grassroots party, where candidates are talking to working people not spending their time raising money for the wealthy and the powerful.
Wealthy, career politicians are the liberal elite.

provide cover for the power brokers that Bernie is speaking about who seem to have forgotten the people.

(31,413 posts)4. It reminds me of Obama's quote in his last press conference ...
Re: Obama - The president said that Democrats "have to be in those communities" where voters felt like the party was too coastal, too elitist, too politically correct. "When we are in those communities, it makes a difference," he said. "It's how I became president."
"People feel as if they're not being heard," he said. "Democrats are characterized as coastal liberal latte-sipping politically-correct out-of-touch folks."

And Bernie is going on yet another tour of Trump country to listen and talk with the people

Obama and Bernie.

(6,829 posts)6. It's crazier that some Dems continue to believe Bernie is all ego
Frankly the Bernie-hating faction sucks. The lies and distortions about him, his motives, his outreach is pretty disheartening
