Sanders brings message on health care, education, taxes to hundreds in Rollinsford

Posted Oct 22, 2017 at 10:17 PM

Excerpts:

Rollinsford resident Doctor Terry Bennett is a fan of Sanders because he said they have a lot of the same values. “When I ran for office in 1992, I was running on a platform of universal health care,” said Bennett. “How can you not be a Bernie supporter?”

State Sen. David Watters spoke before Sanders. He said he is glad he came back to New Hampshire and he likes that he is working to get money out of politics. “I have immense respect for what he’s done,” said Watters.

Letters were sent by U.S. Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan, expressing their regrets at not being able to attend, and saying they were pleased Sanders had returned to the Granite State.

Executive Councilor Chris Pappas said that Sanders speaks to the core values of the Democratic Party. “There is at least one Trump-branded catastrophe day after day,” said Pappas. “The Democrats are persisting and resisting and we need to continue to keep supporting great candidates.”

State Sen. Martha Fuller Clark urged everyone to get involved, to keep the Democratic party strong and growing. “We will bring this country back to its right values,” said Fuller Clark. “There are forces out there that want to divide us. We need to stay focused.”
