The following is a comment following the Washington Post opinion by Tom Toles.

There's a good thread on this already by babylonsister but I felt this comment following that article is worthy of it's own OP. With thanks to poster "FergusonFoont"

Kudos, Tom. Brilliant column.
NOBODY discusses issues and solutions anymore. It's all horserace crap, wall-to-wall. The WashingtonPost in particular used to be better about that sort of thing.
People say they want incorruptibility. Well, hello, Bernie.
People say they want honesty. Hi there, Bernie.
People say they want someone who has proven right about past issues. Heeeere's Bernie!
People say they want someone to stand up to the banksters and the robber barons. Howdy there, Bernie!
People say they want worker rights. Well, how ya doin', Bernie?
People say they want a broader prosperity. That's what Bernie's all about.
The wider his message spreads, the greater his popularity will grow. They will try to stifle and beat down his message under cries of "evil socialism." We mustn't let them. Our armed forces are socialist. Our public schools are socialist. Our most popular medical care systems are more or less socialist.
Of course, socialism has its bad side. Bank robber-baron bailouts at taxpayer expense come to mind, but Bernie wants to break up the too-big-to-fail banksters.

(6,119 posts)They are driven by ad revenue so Hillary needs a serious challenger. The other Democratic challengers don't seem to be able to get any traction. They are too much like Hillary themselves.
The press wants to make sure she empties her war chest. Its their paycheck at stake. Ultimately they will try to bury him because he would negatively effect their revenue stream in the general and beyond.

(45,107 posts)What they don't get is we know Bernie isn't perfect, we know he can't change things by himself, we understand he will have to compromise. What they don't get is that we the people will help him change things, when he compromises he wont start off by giving them 80 percent of what they want and going on from there. After he is elected he won't sit us off in a corner and ignore us. We are excited about Bernie because he is the one speaking to the issues we find important. He doesn't play games. He tells it like it is. Unlike Hillary Bernie's campaign isn't about him being elected President, his campaign is about us and for us, the people.
And I will confess, I do exaggerate my breathlessness for Bernie. It gives some people something to complain about

(6,229 posts)I truly hope all of you have seen the repub plan that is being used against Bernie by the repubs. They are beginning to hit him loud and clear as a socialist since polls show that many Americans will not vote for a socialist. Please don't let your giddiness blind you to the road ahead. I will vote for whoever the Dem nominee is. I sure hope folks here feel the same or we get a RWNJ in the White House.

(39,215 posts)throw at her. And before you tell me that those things are not true - it does not make any difference if they are true or not - the stuff they threw at John Kerry was not true either. The problem for Hillary is that many will believe her baggage.

(23,105 posts)That's why he's so different than the rest of the pols. He won't be saying how he knew he was doing wrong when he's out of office, he's always followed his own conscience, even during the over the top 9/11 period. He didn't get rolled by the Bush/Cheney lie-a-day machine like the rest say they did.
Bernie, Bernie, Bernie - chant with me.
