how do bernie and his supporters package and deliver this message to minority communities?

this is actually from a post i put as a comment in another thread, but thx to a kindhearted du-er who inspired me, i decided to start this as a brainstorming thread for all the ways bernie is THE candidate for minority and other underserved communities. i see that someone started an op about the assumption (from where?) that hillary is best for the black community. i came up with a few ideas that link economic and social justice, but i would love to see us brainstorm so that when we are talking with people who have this concern, that we can present a lot of good reasons why bernie is the best candidate for everyone. some people have accused him of subscribing to trickle down economics which is not at all what he is about.

here is what i have so far:

every time bernie fights for a living wage, he fights for minority communities, as they are often disproportionately affected by low wages.

every time bernie fights for gender wage equality he fights for minority communities, as they are suffering from horrible gender wage inequality.

every time bernie fights for health care for all, he fights for minority communities, as they are getting the least quality and quantity health care, and have a lower life expectancy as a result.

every time bernie fights for education, he fights for minority communites, as many minority communities are saddled with broken schools and no money.

every time bernie fights for voting rights, he fights for minority communities, as they are often targeted by the gop for disenfranchisement.

every time bernie fights against crappy trade deals, he is fighting for minority communities, as they have the highest rates of unemployment and are in desperate need of good jobs.

every time bernie fights for expanding unemployment benefits or food assistance he fights for minority communities because so many minority communities have been hit hard with unemployment and low wages.

every time Bernie fights for free college tuition, he fights for minority communities because minority communities have been traditionally at a disadvantage in getting a good quality education.

every time Bernie fights against the oligarchy of the 1%, he fights for minority communities because minority communities are disproportionately affected by income inequality, access to education, and decent housing.

social justice IS economic justice. fairness and equal opportunities for all improve everyone's quality of life.

i truly see bernie as a champion of ALL people, especially those who have been disenfranchised and left out of this latest economic "upswing".

I'm a Bernie supporter, as you know, and, as I believe you know, I've never thought you were saying he doesn't care about PoC.

My take on what you say is that he doesn't often address racism directly and discretely, and, from my limited observation, I agree. I'm interested in what you say because you contend that this is hurting his campaign with PoC, and I don't want that to happen.

Completely agree with your analogy. I'm a big fan of analogies and sauce for the goose.

As to the reason, I have no idea. If what you bring up is in fact hurting the campaign with regard to PoC, I hope the campaign gives it some thought.

We really don't need more people in prison than China has in prison.

I've been tormenting myself about this meme floating around on here that Bernie doesn't say anything specific about minorities and hence he 'doesn't speak to them.'

But most people I know, minority or not, aren't part of some monolithic group - they make up their own minds.

Honestly, as an economist, I truly believe that Bernie's policies will do much to level the playing field.

The only thing I would say to Bernie is maybe mention that you dislike police misconduct toward minorities as much as the rest of us. Other than that, stick to the message because it is a winning one because everybody will win under these policies.

i think he has spoken out about for profit prisons, but he could also talk to the issues of what has been happening in law enforcement on the street. that is a big issue and the recent tragedies only highlight it.

In almost every speech I've heard him give he covers the AA unemployment rate, the AA youth unemployment rate, incarceration rates for AA males and less often how the US has the largest prison population in the world and reformation and demilitarization of our PD's. Everything else in his stump speeches concerns issues that apply to us all like infrastructure and war. Then there is his track record starting as a student and continuing today. I'd be willing to bet he's got the most consistent track record in civil rights of any candidate ever to run for president with the possible exception of Jesse Jackson who Sanders supported.

My feeling is that Sen. Sanders will make it a point to mention these "talking points" even more and will probably expand this area of his speech because of the existence of this false impression the he's not addressing minority's concerns. He must win their votes after all and just as he's done so far, it'll be through educating the American public to engage minority communities with his own brand of straight talk and open honesty. What he won't do is pander and he'll avoid any hint of it as he continues to excite and mobilize a cynical electorate.

He has a solid personal history of fighting the good fights. His voting record, available to all that are interested, reflects his personal beliefs. His speeches are fact based, issue oriented and policy detailed. In short he talks the talk and walks the walk.

The man frames his concerns in such a way that's it about all of us. Americans. Gay ones. Black ones. Latino, WASP and Vietnamese. He's a unifier. He's also smart and has smart people working for him. Without pandering to any specific group, he'll win them over with pure logic and truth with a heavy helping of his own unique delivery.

The poorest will bear the largest brunt. At home and abroad. Billions will suffer and starve away in the most miserable of circumstances one could imagine. No food, no fresh water, heat waves, high humidity and mass disease.

Not in some far off distant future, but an every increasingly gaining tomorrow.

The more adding volume to the corporations, the fainter the death rattles.

I also think that, for PoC, it's a good message but incomplete if he doesn't directly address racism and the fact that, in many places in America today, there are not only economic barriers, but it's not physically safe for P0C to walk down the street.

I think we need to collect everything he's said about racial justice in addition to the economic piece so that we can use those things, as well.

Nationally, we have Bernie POC organizing in communities across the country. Bernie is doing very well with women, LGBT and Latinos. Although more slowly, the latest data indicates his AA support is also growing, although still slower than other demographics. I believe that trend will accelerate, especially among working class blacks who respond to his populist message. I don't know how many AA veterans there are in South Carolina, but the state % is very high in veterans, I think about 13%. They love Bernie. As he gets back to SC, he will do very well, imo.
