Bernie organizational meeting in St Pete-report.
Was held tonight, hosted by experienced organizers from PDA. I was there as an interested Bernie supporter, plus the bar owner asked me to set and run PA if needed. There was about 30 people there, very diverse in ages and ethnicities. Almost everyone kicked in donations, from $10-1000. A Majority volunteered in some capacity or another. It was very informative, too. I don't remember the names, but apparently there are some really experienced people on the national campaign team, including some top Obama campaign people. The national campaign is very pleased with the progress so far, it's well ahead of expectations.
What's happening here in Florida - since there is no official campaign here yet, the PDA is laying the groundwork to get volunteers signed up, etc. When the official campaign gets rolling, the operation will be transfered to them.
All in all, it sounds like a great deal of grassroots organizing is happening, it's being capably done, and everyone is excited. There will be some meet ups coming soon in St Pete... At least a dozen people signed up to host one.
