Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI was at the Seattle Rally!
It was a partly cloudy day with a light sprinkle but it did nothing to diminish the enthusiasm I witnessed. The crowds were massive. All ages, races and creeds. Whole families and groups of teenagers not old enough to vote. Heard one young lady telling her friend that she skipped the Taylor Swift concert to come to the rally instead. We were so far back in line and it kept growing behind us and it was only half of it as there was a line as long coming from the other side of the building. My brother and husband started to worry we wouldn't get in. Unfortunately they were right. We finally got to the front only to be told that the 12K event center was full and no more could come in. There was a huge crowd outside and before we could even feel too disappointed my husband saw a flash of white above the crowd. IT WAS BERNIE!! He didn't have to, nobody would of thought any less of him, but this man, this class act, came outside to speak with those of us who couldn't get in. Just to acknowledge that we were there. He gave a short talk and just like that he was gone. I can't begin to express the excitement that caused. It became like a festival, people chatting with each other, milling about waiting to just hear the speech from inside the stadium. Although, we were disappointed not to get in, I was so glad I was there, to be a part of this movement. I hope we can put to rest this idiotic notion that Bernie only has limited appeal. If what I saw is any indication this man will be our next president.
We didn't stay to listen to the speech as we were hungry and if we wanted to just hear him we could watch his other speeches on YouTube. We headed down to University Way and stopped at an Irish pub for dinner and a drink and to talk about what we had just witnessed. All three of us were wearing our Bernie buttons. A young couple at the next table saw them and asked if we had come from the rally. We responded yes but that we weren't able to get in but that he had come out to see us. The young woman, Sarah, got so excited, wanted to see the video I'd taken on my cell phone. I ended up emailing it to her. I love seeing the young so engaged! It really does give this middle aged woman hope for the future. If Bernie comes again I will definitely attend but this time was just magic and nothing will ever quite top it.

(172 posts)I'd forgotten to mention that we paid $10 to park and as we were leaving the attendant asked if we got in, when we replied no he gave us our money back. We were completely gobsmacked and knew that it had to come from someone on Bernie's team if not Bernie himself. I mean, usually, once those people have your money, kiss it goodbye. When we got to the Pub my brother said, this beer comes courtesy of Bernie.

(41,177 posts)all of us. In early June I attended a packed 2-hour Public Policy Forum on Rebooting the American Dream where Bernie was one of 2 main speakers. (Not an official campaign rally). So glad I brought a new roll of 25 blue 'Bernie 2016' campaign sticker/labels which I passed out to the enthused audience there. For three days after that event I was inspired and naturally high! Agree that it's very encouraging to see so many people, esp. the young hearing his message. We have very close, long term friends in Seattle. What a terrific city; I thought about moving there years ago.

(172 posts)Just the vibe from yesterday has me all hyped still. I wish you had been there to give me some stickers, we looked in vain for stickers all over. Seattle is such a beautiful place and I hope to never live anywhere else again and you are most welcome to move here and make a great place better!

(172 posts)I didn't feel short changed in the least. I got to see the man in the flesh, after not getting in that was so much more than I expected.

(172 posts)We saw news cameras there and my husband remarked that he was happy to see them because it meant that the event would be covered. I don't watch local news so its disheartening to learn that was not the case. I'm very glad that Bernie's younger supporters don't watch TV news, they don't care what the media covers as they are riding Bernie's social media wave which is threatening to become a tsunami.

(41,177 posts)The Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington has a fine gallery of Pre Raphaelite paintings. My brother turned me on to them- including works by Rossetti, John Edward Millais and other 19th c. Brit. Romantic painters. Here's another painting Jane posed for, "Holy Grail".

(1,005 posts)and showed the folks waiting for the doors to open. A reporter there talked about the earlier problems and said she had interviewed Bernie and it was posted on their website. This was the 5 pm new report, there may have been more on the 11pm. That's past my bedtime.

(9,497 posts)Sitting high in the nose bleed section behind him.
Outside was really pretty mellow happy in a Seattle fashion.
The air inside the arena was electric. I am so happy that you can see the entire event, it saves me from trying to read my scribbled notes.
I like to take notes because it anchors in the emotions I am feeling at the moment.
I loved how engaged the crowd was from criminal injustice, to climate injustice (we are raping mother earth) to fighting Wall street, voter fraud allegations, incarceration .
The air was electric. The crowd was with all the speakers.
It is so cool, that he took the time to speak and reach out to the
3000
who could not get in!

(172 posts)That's great that you got in...it must have been truly something. Like your notes (which is a great thing) I used my phone to document, I filmed that lines of people as we looked for a place to park, the crowd as we walked to the back of the line and those milling about after Bernie's short talk to us. I just wanted to have something tangible to bring that feeling again. It was great and I wish I could have been inside with you but, hopefully, if he comes back I can try again. I'll have to camp out overnight it seems.

(172 posts)That was all I saw where I was. Looked for stickers and didn't see any. Each may be different though.
