In August 2003, the "hottest thing in politics" was the former governor of Vermont. Howard Dean was on the cover of both Time and Newsweek. He was declared the "unbeatable front runner."

After a three-week savage barrage by the corporatist media in Dec '03 - Jan '04, he was the answer to a trivia question. John Kerry walked away with the nomination.

For example, the world didn't have facebook, twitter or youtube.

Misinformation may spread faster than before, but everyone can be a fact checker now and misinformation can be corrected in a matter of minutes.

It all depends on how well the hivemind of the internet works. This will certainly alter the course of this coming election. The revolution will not be televised, it will be tweeted.

8. Yes, the media is more powerful. That has changed.

There was an Internet back then. It wasn't the Dark Ages. In fact, that was the hallmark of the ill-fated Dean campaign, their use of the "hivemind" as you say, of the Internet. That's what they were known for.

The corporatist media can create any reality it wants in about three weeks.

For example, people are now choosing up sides of the Iran agreement because we have to keep Iran from destroying the world. What everyone ignores is that Iran poses no threat to anyone, except in the minds of the terrorist government of Israel. It's a phony controversy. But everyone has bought into it.

9. Yeah, we had internet back in the 70's too

The internet then was not as efficient a communicator as it is now. The way Twitter works is practically similar to the way neurons in a brain work. All messages shooting en masse to millions of neurons (users) instantaneously.

It's much more different than the days of Dean's campaign.

Bernie's success is a testament against the idea of your statement being "The corporatist media can create any reality it wants in about three weeks."

The corporate medias been trying for longer than 3 weeks and the bern is still berning. Getting brighter even, in despite of what the media would lead the world to believe. Their painted realities are chipped away in record time.
