(214 posts)Way back in 1960 when I was 10 years old I could not vote for JFK but I was inspired by him. Maybe it was my youth or the first Televised Debates that inspired me. I don't know. In the past 55 years I cannot think of one candidate (even Obama is his first run for President) that inspired me as much as JFK did save for Bernie Sanders. He is real. He is genuine. And he can win.

(1,606 posts)Bear in mind that Gandhi was referencing the long and sustained sacrifice of the committed satyagrahi in the context of overcoming British colonial oppression. This movement entailed an active but peaceful resistance characterized by unconditional love and compassion for the oppressor (ahimsa) and, often, a willing submission to violence until such time as the conscience of the oppressor was piqued and, accordingly, subdued.
This Gandhian nonviolent principle may work in the lonnnnng run, but I suspect an election cycle demands a more robust and forceful confrontation. In any case it will require sacrifice in the effort to impugn the conscience of the foe so that they might see the error of their ways.
The long arc of history bend inexorably toward justice. Gandhi recognized this "long arc." That said, we do not have the luxury of time. We need a REVOLUTION.
Bernie 2016.
