Sanders can appear on Oregon Dem Primary ballot

PORTLAND, Ore. (Portland Tribune) — Good news for supporters of Bernie Sanders — he can appear on the 2016 Democratic Primary Election ballot, even though the Vermont U.S. Senator is officially registered as an independent.

Oregon Secretary of State Jeanne P. Atkins made the announcement Friday after consulting with the Oregon Department of Justice in response to questions raised by reporters and others. One state elections law says candidates who want to appear on a party’s ballot must be registered with that party at least 180 days before the filing deadline.

But another law says the Secretary of State has sole discretion to decide who appears on which party’s Presidential ballots in primary elections.

Most people who have been writing about Sanders in the msm are either intentionally doing a hatchet job or don't know shit from Shinola.

No, Sanders is not "officially" registered as an independent. (BTW, note the unnecessary adjective, followed by bs, much like "self-avowed socialist." You're either registered or you are not. Unofficial voter registration is not a thing, folks.)

"Officially" registering as an independent, or as a Democrat, or as a Republican, is simply not an option in Vermont or many other states who have adopted a more modern position about registration, voting in primaries, etc. He is officially registered as a voter, period. Exactly as was Vermont Governor Howard Dean.

Being "officially" registered as a voter, Sanders is, under Vermont law, whatever he declares himself to be and can "officially" run however he chooses to run. Just as Governor Dean could.

Sand used to run as an independent. Now, he is running as a Democrat, with the blessing of the Vermont Democratic Party and the DNC. Or the DNC would not have invited him to participate in the Democratic Presidential Primary debates. (Duh!) Much as Governor Chafee used to run as a Republican and is now running as a Democrat. Much as Senator Webb used to be a Republican until he ran for the US Senate. Much as Hillary was registered Republican until she registered Democrat.

But harping on this as to Sanders is designed to turn off voters. Enough lies about Senator Sanders!

I have been thinking that I would make a proposition to my Republican friends... that if they will stop telling lies about the Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them.

We'll probably be doing a lot of that between now and the election.
