Well, well, well, FINALLY I get an email from the Clinton camp, asking for a donation:

(Allegedly from Bill...)

C***** --

I haven't written to you yet during this election, but today's too important to stay on the sidelines.

Hillary's campaign has a major fundraising deadline tonight, and she needs your help. Will you donate what you can before midnight?

A quick story:

When I met Hillary a long time ago, she was one of just 27 women in her graduating class in law school, and she was a star. When she graduated, she had lucrative job offers. But she decided not to go to a big firm in D.C. or New York.

Instead, Hillary went to work for the Children's Defense Fund, going door to door to collect stories about the lack of schooling for children with disabilities. Those stories helped push forward historic legislation requiring us to do a better job educating the kids who need our help the most.

I've watched Hillary for more than forty years. She doesn't do things for the title, the pay, or the accolades. Hillary takes on fights because she cares about the people she could help if she wins -- the working families, women, and children who could do so much better with even a little support.

That's the kind of president she'll be. But she'll only get a chance to show it if we stand with her today.

Hillary needs us more than ever right now. That's why I'm asking you to donate $1 or more before midnight and stand with her.
Thanks,

Bill Clinton

My response:

Bill:

During your administration, you made decisions that have had a critical impact on my financial status. I am poorer than I’ve ever been in my life, thanks in part to your decision re: Glass-Steagall. As a consequence of my dire financial status, I cannot contribute to your wife’s campaign.

Besides, I’m supporting Bernie Sanders, because he isn’t in bed with the corporate megalomaniacs who’ve usurped our media, our politics, AND our global economy.

MOST sincerely,
C***** *******

But, that's not ALL, folks:

Hello! Thanks for reaching out to the campaign. To ensure your message reaches the appropriate member of our team, please visit our website and fill out the form at www.hillaryclinton.com/contact. We look forward to hearing from you!

All the best,

Hillary for America

I find it surprising that such an erudite person (Bill) would use a conjunction ("today's&quot in his opening sentence. Does it sound folksy and personal? Notice the personal plea: "she needs your help." (Sorry, Hillary, no can do...) I am not 'buying' the folksy, "aw, shucks" tone from Bill, and I'm NOT supporting ANY corporate megalomaniacs.

I know that a campaign lackey will be the one who reads my response (if it gets read at all), but I am more than happy to pass on the fact that I'm supporting Sanders.

Go, Bernie!!!

__________________________________________________________________________

Edited to add:

Responding to the initial "Hillary for America" email has opened the floodgates. When I unsubscribed, I got a webpage that asks "Can you stick around?" and plays a 4:56 minute campaign ad for Hillary.

Again: GO, BERNIE!!!

from the Clinton Campaign...I let the polite young man go on....and after several attempts to tell him, I am Not donating....I stated I, my husband and family support Bernie....he sounded So surprised if Not shocked. "Ohhh really" he said.
I went on to explain why: Democrats/Third Way/New Dem Coalition will Never have my support again-that I have Been behind Dems and have called myself a Democrat since 1959 and that "they" could gives a rats ass about My opinion, my concerns and hang up on me when I tried to Air my concerns about the direction of "my" party. That it was So many Bad Votes for NAFTA/CAFTA/DOMA/Biden Amping up the War on Drugs/Pat Act/Iraq War/Sequester/Austerity/Chained CPI Proposed By a Dem POTUS/Welfare Reform/STOCK ACT/Failure(s) to Prosecute Bankers/Failure for real Justice Reform/USPS Retirement Bill of 2006 (and more) ..... Need I go On? I asked him. Quietly, he said No. I said, Good evening to you sir. and hung up.

more to add.....sadly.

TPP/TITP/TATP, TARP, KeystoneXL, Gun Control Fail, Criminal Justice Reform Fail, WoD's, Filibuster Reform Fail, Capitulation after Capitulation, Wall Street Appointees......Dem Majority Leaderships overall failure from the "get-go" to Not draw "that line in the sand". How many representatives are actually representing the people on a wide range of issues. It sure seems like the ones who are most consistently "for the people" are few. Sadder yet, is the fact they're out numbered, out moneyed and outranked.
There is simply too much to forget, continue to ignore over too many years-I can no longer support the "elite wall street" faction of the Dem Party.
They have, in my experience over the years, lost their way as well.
All imo - of course.

It makes a lot of sense to show a groundswell of regular people listed as donors and skew the statistics about the donations.

100 people donating a total of $10,000,000 means each one would have given an average of $10,000.

100,100 people donating a total of $10,100,000 means it would look like the average is only $101 per person, and that sounds like she is popular with the "people".

I mean specifically the obscene discrepancy between what the uber wealthy are hoarding and what the Hoi Polloi struggles to amass simply to keep food on the table and sustain some semblance of shelter.

AFAIK, you are correct that Bernie is the only candidate for POTUS who talks about this.

Like you, I am politely declining to support those whose ties to Wall Street promise more of the same crap we've survived since St. Ronnie performed the biggest act of his pathetic career, as simulacrum for the corporate megalomaniacs who've usurped our media, our politics AND our global economy.

….of Bill's—all folksy. There's a Clinton biographer that my friends are quoting to me, who wrote, "Bill Clinton is an authentic phony". I think that describes Bill exactly.

Same guy goes on to say something along the lines that she lacks Bill's skill—and is bad at it—hence, one isn't as willing to be conned by her. Hillary's phoniness is telegraphed!

The writer who said this may be a conservative operative, so I'm not endorsing him, but I that distinction between the two Clintons right on target.

Also, I think it's telling that Bernie has been asking us for money from day one, but that she's had enough for many months from her rich donors—and is only coming to us now. To me, that contains the whole damn problem.

Go Bernie!

I find that biographer's description quite apt.

And, while there are a few things about Hillary I admire, none of those "things" compels me to support her as our next POTUS. Our nation is in dire need of a revolution, and I think Bernie comes closest to realizing that sea change.

I was surprised that I got a response to my email declining to support HRC. I'm sure it's one that they programmed into their campaign computers so that an actual human doesn't read what I wrote.

Well, if HRC and her handlers aren't willing to "hear" why so many refuse to support her, I guess she'll have to depend on her wealthy donors to get her in the White House. (And, with the wellspring of support Bernie is getting, I think her chances are growing slimmer by the day.)
