Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI went to the opening of Bernie Sanders Greenville, SC office this evening.
The crowd was out the door. I got a Bernie yard sign, another bumper sticker, and I signed up to phone bank. It's a stretch for me, but I REALLY couldn't see myself knocking on doors. And I'd be dismal at entering data. Any tips from veterans would be greatly appreciated. Go Bernie!

(5,400 posts)Your made a difference in your life by making a choice you can be proud of. Choices like that make it possible for good candidates to win.

(3,010 posts)My yard sign will probably freak everybody in my neighborhood out. Greenville is incredibly conservative. That the turnout at the new office packed the place was encouraging, though. Lots of young people there. Very encouraging.

(18,791 posts)I'm hoping at some point that we get an office in my part of Los Angeles area.
In 2008, I did data input and donated tons of window sign copies...the signs were just impossible to get officially from the campaign at that time.

So your #1 priority is to listen.
If you can engage, then keep listening and remember that you're there to listen. Listen and learn, and bring it back to us.

Glad you're doing this, stage left. My RA is improving and am hoping to do a bit of it too in the near future.

(33,990 posts)and I lived to tell the tale! Tip - wear a Bernie t-shirt when you are going door to door. If they are not interested they will simply not answer the door.
Also, explain the primary to them. People who follow politics know about primary voting - but many don't. Emphasize the importance of voting in the primary (whether you are on the phone or at the door).

I used to live in Asheville, NC and went to Greenville quite often. Lovely town, esp. the Greenville County Museum of Art with the awesome Andrew Wyeth watercolors. It is a conservative area, however, so I applaud you for mustering your courage and getting on board the Bernie train. Even if you can't knock on doors, you should be able to do well on the phone bank. It is a tough job, though and I hope the campaign doesn't require you to focus on raising money. That was my downfall. I can't ask, beg, hump for money. I will present facts for voters, hand out flyers, shout out in public, but I won't hump for money for a campaign.
Peace out~~~~
