In case you can't see this link, it is a picture of Gary Dorr, a northern native man (don't know his tribe), wearing a traditional First Cavalry sergeant's hat (i.e. old school cavalry). Gary went to war with the First Cavalry. His T-shirt says "Native Vets for Bernie 2016."

My grandfather was Ojibwa and grew up in Indian School in WI. He hated the Souix as he called them. I think it was because there must have been some mean boys who happened to be Souix at the school.

5. I agree. I believe the French

were the ones who called the Lakota, the "Sioux."

It's sort of like calling the Dine "Navajo" or the Salisch "Flatheads." I understand those to be appellations ascribed originally by the dominant (i.e. European) culture.

My wife is not a big fan of the Lakota either, although her people (Arapaho) are traditional allies who helped Sitting Bull whip Custer's ass!
