Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI am using Bernie's own way of winning hearts and minds.
I have tried this on facebook when I encounter an unhinged Trump supporter. It seems to be working. Here is what I write first:
"You are right to be angry and fearful. It makes me sad to see you that way."
Then...
"I hope we can focus on the real causes of our bitterness and fear, and not be divided by politics or hate."
And then I can talk about economic equality and educational equality and all of the other points that Bernie makes. I never mention Bernie by name. I never attack Trump.

(50,130 posts)I realized it while listening to him this week either on Rachel or on Jimmy Fallon.
If we FIRST acknowledge that their anger and bitterness are legitimate, then we can have a conversation.
If we begin by belittling their choice of Trump or calling them stupid, then there is no place for reason.
but, not to be a schoolmarm or anything, "artful" mainly carries negative connotations. Clinton is artful, IMO. Sanders is honest, and speaks from the heart.
