So, not really sure how to post a link from Facebook but try this is from IATSE members for Bernie Sanders page:
A CALL TO ACTION!
A few weeks ago, there was an online survey to find out who the IATSE membership supports for President so that the LEADERSHIP would be informed of our preference, no matter the outcome. (You can still vote if you haven't) https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QJP6QXD
Bernie had always DOMINATED this poll with Hillary not receiving a single vote for several days. Even Rand Paul leads her in this poll. TODAY, IATSE announced their endorsement of Hillary Clinton (just as I suspected would happen.) http://iatse.net/news/iatse-endorses-hillary-clinton-president
The leadership is CLEARLY not representing the membership and we NEED to make our voices heard. The next meeting of the National Executive Board is on January 23rd and 24th at the Hyatt Regency Century City Plaza in Los Angeles. The meeting begins promptly at 9:00 AM.
I URGE YOU to attend this meeting as a guest so that they know where we stand.
The poll has 87.93 percent of the vote going to Bernie Sanders. If anyone else here is a member of IATSE please come to the meeting or at least write leadership.
Gotta say everyone I work with from VPs on down is for Bernie.

(2,603 posts)Those members that took the time to vote for Bernie are probably pissed off and fired up more than ever now. Many that may have been not really committed to voting in the primary may no go out of their way to come out and make their voices heard where it counts, the voting booth.

(7,231 posts)actually prefer Sanders? How representative is this poll? This kind of discrepancy is just staggering.

(9,933 posts)The poll is still open for voting so if you are or if you know any members one can still vote.

(5,141 posts)They're theater, tv and film people. I worked in the industry or else I probably wouldn't know about them.
The endorsement stinks to high heaven.

(13,877 posts)I'm assuming it was the leaders who are likely mega-wealthy, so I doubt many of them or their members will be out knocking doors for HRC...LOL.

(5,141 posts)At least the film people are. I was in the production assistant's union but I was lucky enough to get a gig at a studio full-time, but most of my colleagues worked really really hard for 6-8 months on location then had to hustle to make ends meet while looking for other work. So I totally get why they would prefer Bernie and no, I don't think the rank and file will be canvassing for Hillary!

(9,933 posts)Same for animation. You basically work a show contract and are always looking for the next show. There will be downtimes between. Not exactly secure stable work. Funny thing is it used to be more secure with staff positions and many more studios in town to get work from. Over the past twenty years media consolidation and offshoring has turned us into temp workers fighting over the few jobs that remain. Leaders are definitely out of touch.

(5,141 posts)Did both theater and film production, and in theater I was on staff too. I think out of all my friends that were in the industry, I only know ONE person who is still working in it (and barely scraping by with TV commercial production). And I had friends that moved to Toronto and Prague trying to follow the work, but the gigs became increasingly non-union and low-paying.
With this move, it seems that leadership is becoming increasingly divorced of reality and the needs and desires of the rank and file.
