wasn't nominated on the first ballot. Adlai Stevenson. It was also the first year I was vaguely interested in politics. I was 7 years old, and it was on the TV, which was a brand new thing in our house. So, the convention was news, and I watched the news. I pretty much watched everything that was on the TV, when it was on, anyhow.

The first reply mentions 1952 ... and that was the last brokered convention for both parties. It was brokered for both the Democrats and the Republicans.
