Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumElizabeth Warren flew out of DC's most notorious airport gate. Here's what happened
Deemed by Washingtonian magazine as "the worst airport gate ever," 35X is an American Airlines gate at Reagan National Airport's C terminal. It's the gate where Robert Mueller and Donald Trump Jr. were spotted waiting for their respective flights last summer.
And this is the gate where Sen. Elizabeth Warren found herself Thursday night. Running for president may appear glamorous, but the reality can be much more mundane. Candidates often find themselves stuck in airports, dealing with flight delays and scouting out the terminal's best food options -- just like the rest of us.

(Ok this Gate 35X bus ride has legit turned into a mini town hall. Man wants to know why shes going to Kermit, W Va. She says she has a new opioids bill out, and wants to hold big pharma execs liable)
By 6:20 p.m. ET, the Democratic presidential candidate was spotted in the terminal with two of her advisers. As she waited in line at &pizza, fellow patrons asked for selfies. One man asked Warren to speak to someone on FaceTime -- she obliged. With pizza in hand, Warren next headed further into Terminal C to the Dunkin' Donuts, where she picked up an iced black tea.
With thunderstorms in the region, the Charleston flight was delayed more than once. Also spotted in the gate area was Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown catching a flight to Akron, Ohio, as well as former White House lawyer Ty Cobb. More than an hour after the scheduled departure time, Door 4 was called for the Charleston flight.

It must be a trip to be famous.

(28,798 posts)at what point do the candidates get protection? i mean, it might not be a bad idea for them to employ bodyguards if they don't get SS.
the more i see of her the more she is the one for me. the other candidate i want a lot is Harris and she's been good lately too.
i just found out today that Seth Moulton is running. didn't even know it. there may be others i haven't heard about yet even though i keep up pretty diligently, or so i thought i did.

(45,447 posts)They are a publicly declared candidate.
They are actively campaigning nationally and are contesting at least 10 state primaries.
Are pursuing the nomination of a qualified party, one whose presidential candidate received at least 10% of the popular vote in the prior election.
Are qualified for public matching funds of at least $100,000, and have raised at least $10 million in additional contributions.
Have received by April 1 of the election year an average of 5 percent in individual candidate preferences in the most recent national opinion polls by ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN, or have received at least 10 percent of the votes cast for all candidates in two same-day or consecutive primaries or caucuses.
Obama got protection about a year and half prior to the general election due to the historic amount of death threats he received from racists. Most everyone else gets it about 4 months before the general election. They started this policy after Bobby Kennedy.

(2,275 posts)Love her genuine sense of justice. She's like a Kennedy. Very warm, even funny at times. She would be such a fantastic president.
I do like many of the other Democrats, but Warren is just so smart and experienced.

(31,261 posts)I have friends in Mass who talk about her Senate races, she was everywhere, big cities, small hamlets, didn't matter, she was there.
I think this is how we change minds in red places, go there and risk the rude protestors, force decent people in those places to really make an important choice that is not based upon fear.
