Nothing 'middle of the road' about leaving poor women & women of color unable to access abortion

care when they need it. Especially right now. That position is unjust and discriminatory and endangers women and families.

For anyone who thinks this is a position of faith, here's Mario Cuomo's 1984 speech at Notre Dame arguing that as a pro-life Catholic individual, he was ethically obligated to govern in a pro-choice manner including getting rid of the discriminatory Hyde. http://archives.nd.edu/research/texts/cuomo.htm

but it's been the law for a long, long, long time...and now, all of a sudden, it's litmus test issue??

If Obama could magically run again, his last position was in favor of it last time I checked....should he be disqualified then?

It is 2019, a pro-Hyde stance is unacceptable.

caved in and signed a bill that, as part of a deal on healthcare, kept it in place. But he deffo campaigned against it. That stance (Biden's pro-Hyde open support) is not acceptable in 2019 IMHO.

Here is an article on his (Obama's) bill signing. I am sure there was a lot of discussion on it here at DU back in the day. There are no longer any significant numbers of pro-life (forced-birther) Democrats. The odious (anti-choice, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ) Dan Lipinski, and 2 others, Collin Peterson of MN, and Henry Cuellar (who is also anti-immigrant and anti-LGBTQ) of TX, are all that remain, so they couldn't toss a spanner in the works like they did in 2010.

Obama signs order on abortion and healthcare.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-healthcare-obama/obama-signs-order-on-abortion-and-healthcare-idUSTRE62N61Y20100324

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama signed an executive order on abortion on Wednesday that had won crucial votes for his healthcare bill, but disappointed women’s groups that have been among his most enthusiastic supporters.

The order is intended to ensure the new healthcare law will maintain a ban on the use of federal money to pay for abortions, except in cases of rape or incest, or if the life of a woman is in danger.

The White House announced on Sunday that Obama would sign the order in exchange for support for the massive healthcare overhaul bill from Democratic abortion rights opponents’ in the House of Representatives.

The support from the roughly dozen members of that group, led by Representative Bart Stupak, was essential to get the 216 votes necessary for the House to pass the bill.

Abortion rights advocates said they were furious about the signing, which they said gave extra weight to an anti-abortion measure known as the Hyde Amendment, but acknowledged they were unlikely to campaign against healthcare reform or most candidates who supported the bill.

1. I support this
2. I don't support it (but I'm going to sign bills with it in them anyways).

Point is, it's a pretty new and weird line of no return all of a sudden.

Right NOW there are still, according to polls highplains posted, who are pro-Hyde. They'll have to be conceded to until we get THE win.

Then they can be "brought along" into the 2019 "stance."

dismaying. I don't understand why people are so afraid to talk about things that aren't great about their candidates; pretending they're THE BEST EVERRRRR doesn't help anyone and assuming that "this position is bad" = "I'M VOTING TRUMP" is a great way to silence people.
