Age Matters More Than Sexual Orientation to Voters

June 10, 2019 at 7:43 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll finds Americans are more likely to say they would reject a candidate older than 70 than a candidate who is gay.

The poll found that 48% of adults in the United States said they were “much” or “somewhat” less likely to support someone for the White House if the person was older than 70, while 34% were less likely to vote for someone who is gay.

at the election.. Biden, Sanders and Warren.. and of course the other side Trump is post 70... seems that most people don't care about age either.. as long as they are on top of their game..

EDIT to add.. Trump is definitely not on top of the game.. the man is delusional.

2. It's a matter of who you've got to choose from.

When both candidates are over 70, you'll be voting for someone over 70.

Age is one of many factors.

I am one who has an issue with someone over 70...for physical and mental reasons. Not the number or perception of "old fogey."

4. That's a catchy sentence that's great in ads for L'Oreal, but in reality, age is more than a number.

The body starts breaking down as a person ages, as well as the brain. Mental acuity lessens. A person is much more likely to get certain illnesses and medical conditions. (example: Reagan, who was otherwise healthy & lived a healthy lifestyle with excellent health care...he was diagnosed w/Altzheimer's while in office, at about age 75.)

This is biology. It applies to every human being. It's the natural aging process. Although the process is faster or slower in different individuals.

This doesn't mean that someone over 70 or 80 isn't up to the job. It depends on the person. A nurse once told me that the last good decade for a man is the 70s. There's a rapid decline once they are in their 80s. (She had experience with seniors.)

For some voters, they're fine with it. Others are concerned about it. Voters have to decide for themselves.

If the nominee is Biden, at least the opponent is also over 70.

To how many voters is the real question.

I don't think either should be a factor, frankly.

6. Intensity of preference is what matters most here.

Whether more voters would prefer a gay to old candidate is less significant than whether more voters would refuse to vote for a gay or old candidate, etc.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
