Pete Buttigieg Rocks Iowa And Tears Down Trump’s White Nationalist Wall


Pete Buttigieg is climbing in the polls in Iowa, and while addressing the Iowa Democratic Party Hall Of Fame Forum took on Trump’s wall and white nationalism.

Buttigieg said, “Trump’s vision of security is a wall from sea to shining sea. That’s not going to help with cybersecurity. That’s not going to help with election security. That’s not going to help us name and confront this violent white nationalism.”

Buttigieg is within two points of second place in the latest Iowa poll, which don’t mean much in the early stages of this race, but polls do illustrate who has momentum and who is stumbling. Buttigieg has found a message on veterans’ issues and national security that is working for him. Voters in the center lane of the Democratic Party who are looking for, let’s be honest, a younger candidate than former vice president Biden are drawn to Buttigieg.

The wall won’t do anything to stop the rise of white nationalism. The wall won’t solve cybersecurity threats. The wall isn’t even an answer on immigration. It is a simplistic symbol of hate and division, not strength and security.

Pete Buttigieg and Elizabeth Warren are the two Democrats who are on the rise in Iowa, and it is easy to see why many Hawkeye State Democrats find Mayor Pete appealing.

1. In a crowded field Pete has far too little Black support to become our nominee. But...

he is proving to be an excellent messenger. And in the process his personal profile is rising. He is very young and he has plenty of time in his political career to make inroads into constituencies who may be slow to embrace him; either because he is still so relatively unknown to them, or because they still have a little ways to go before they are willing to usher a gay couple into the White House.

Finally, he is not a johnny-come-lately to these concerns. The national media focused two negatives in regards to this relationship with AA South Bend community - not bothering to put them in context. Example: He heard a *lot* from the AA community before his first run for mayor about taking down abandoned houses. He listened and started the 1000 homes in 1000 days program - most homes were demolished, some were fixed up. Some criticized him for not providing enough support to fix up homes. Now SB invests $1,000,000 annually to fix up homes in neighborhoods in need.

And they sort of implied that he was struggling to find people. Not sure how true that is, but I imagine with so many candidates it's probably really hard to find top rate campaign staff.

as the one and two percenters drop out. I'm sure there are staffers out there who thought that the candidate they signed to would be doing way better by now, and as soon as their salaries are cut to save money, they will be willing to jump ship.

No waffling, no changing positions based on the pit stop location. He has sound reasoning, a clear vision, principled standards and a very, very sharp mind. He’s still at the top of my list along with Elizabeth Warren.

6. There Are So Many Things that Trump's Border Wall WON"T Protect Us Against

That it begs the question: What exactly WILL Trump's border wall protect us against - if anything? But protecting us against anything is not the reason Trump cooked up this whole cockamamy scheme. The real reasons for proposing the border wall are:

1) It is a potent symbol of bigotry and xenophobia and very useful as a rallying cry for white nationalists.
2) It will be very useful for lining his own pockets - the Trump organization will probably be behind the construction.
3) It will be a great big monument to Trump's overinflated ego.
4) It will be useful to deflect and divert attention away from the real problems and threats to our national security, like the Russian cyberattack - and Russian puppets like Trump himself, providing him with more cover under which to do Putin's dirty work of wrecking our democracy from within.

Kudos to Mayor Pete for courageously speaking out and calling Trump's bluff on what could be Trump's iconic signature proposal.

Which means it makes it easy to swiftboat him, particularly to suppress African American voters.

Plus, many older African American voters will not vote for him.
