Undecided at 40% leads LATEST Massachusetts Poll

Woah.

When given a choice in an early poll, the overwhelming winner in the latest Massachusetts Poll is Undecided at 40%.

No one else even comes close to Undecided, with the closest actual candidate getting only ~half that in support.

The results:

Biden 22%
Warren 10%
Buttigieg 8%
Sanders 6%

https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/politics/2019/06/10/biden-leading-warren-among-democratic-voters-mass-poll-finds/GUVxw1pzDjA9Nau9cMAlCP/story.html

This pretty much mirrors what we see here on DU with our Primary Preference poll. The undecided DU-ers also remain at ~40%.

The reason why is simple, I think. Voters want to see and hear more from ALL the candidates. They have not gotten enough feedback yet to settle on a definitive choice because there have been no debates, no primaries, no caucuses and serious campaigning has barely started.

I wish all polls would give voters the chance to choice "undecided", that allows a more accurate picture of voter preference to emerge.

primary today, I would vote for:
Undecided

I forget who, but I got a call to be polled and when I said I was undecided they said that wasn't an option and they hung up. lol

It would be nice if the undecided percent was reported and shown in those tabulations for all the polls then, especially this early.

Thanks!

Amen to that. The high number of undecideds speaks volumes. We have so many talented candidates that it's just too hard to decide so early when really need to hear more from each one of them. They are all so good.

The question here was who would you vote for if the election was held today, which isn’t really a commitment. It just means we are a little more partial to one candidate over the others.

Making a final, conclusive choice this far in advance would seem ill-advised to me.

People want to hear what these candidates are going to do in THIS presidential cycle.

The fact that Biden, the person with the most exposure on the national stage as a TWO term Vice President, got beat by undecided 2:1 shows that.

None of these three candidates have sealed the deal in Massachusetts, that's apparent. And probably a good thing.

Ted Kennedy got 65% of the vote in the 1980 Massachusetts Democratic primary against a sitting president.

Joe, Elizabeth, and Bernie have one hundred percent name recognition in Massachusetts. Their numbers mean something and what they mean for Elizabeth and Bernie isn't good. In fact Bernie received 48.3% of the vote in the 2016 primary. For him 6% is terrible.

I would have thought that a two term Obama Vice President would have done much better than 24% in true blue Massachusetts to be honest.

Look, trying to spin this to show a definitive preference from this poll result is just silly.

40% of the responders were undecided. That beats the closest person by ~ 2:1.

We can argue, I mean discuss, whether a home state Senator or Obama's two term VP had higher expectations to meet in Massachusetts but it's pointless.

The Poll shows voters are DECIDEDLY undecided.

Cheers!

You just seem to take issue with just two of the prominent candidates mentioned in the poll.

I wonder why. lol

I'm fixated on the fact that that A two term Obama VP, A sitting US senator in her home state, and a prominent candidate from the last presidential election are getting SWAMPED by UNDECIDED VOTERS at 40%.

See the difference?

Your concern is just a subset of mine. I wonder why.

Trying to spin this poll is just silly. The voters are decidedly undecided.

The salient facts are Elizabeth Warren is polling at ten percent in her home state and Bernie lost eighty eight percent of his support. And it's not as if the voters don't know who they are.

Do you or do you not think those numbers are good for them? Embodied in your argument is the assertion voters will like them more as they get to know more about them. They have one hundred percent name recognition. Given that don't you see how weak your argument is?

See?

Once again you repeat the same points about just TWO of the THREE prominent candidates that got swamped by undecided voters in this poll.

The salient fact is that voters know who all THREE are and you keep talking only about just same two.

Biden , Warren and Sanders all got swamped by undecided at 40%.

I really don't think there is much more that I can say about that.

I focused on the poor performance of three candidates, you focused on the poor performance of just two.

I don't see much point in repeating myself about that fact either. lol

Thanks for the discussion!

Biden, Warren, and Sanders have one hundred percent name recognition. One is a former vice president, one is a home state senator, and one is a senator from a neighboring state who won nearly forty nine percent of the vote in the previous primary. If Joe's 24% showing is awful as you are suggesting what does that say about Warren who is polling at 10% and Sanders polling at 6%?

lol

Look, we can spin spin spin all day, but the fact is that voters are undecided, it's just too early.

Voters need to see the debates, see actual primary/cacus results and have the candidates campaign on the issues THIS presidential cycle.

That's obvious and just common sense. This poll shows that.
