The people complaining because Biden says GOP lawmakers "know better" than to support Trump, and

that they could change once Trump is defeated and they don't have to be afraid of him, have apparently forgotten all the many, many news stories over the last few years about what those GOP lawmakers have been saying about Trump in private.

All the news stories, AND all the personal accounts from pundits, journalists and anti-Trump lawmakers saying the same thing on TV.

I'm not excusing GOP lawmakers' cowardice in not standing up to Trump. Biden isn't either.

When you tell someone whose behavior you know is wrong that they "know better" than to behave that way, you're attacking the behavior while at the same time leaving open the possibility that they'll change, at least a little, at least some of the time.

This is a very smart strategy for Biden. Unless you think Biden (or any Democratic candidate) is guaranteed an electoral-college victory (since we know winning the popular vote is NOT enough), or guaranteed overwhelming Democratic majorities in both the House and the Senate after the 2020 elections, SOME support and cooperation from more moderate Repulicans will be necessary. And the Republicans who have been criticizing Trump in private, who by doing that have made it clear that they really do "know better" than to support Trump, would be a good place to start.

with Obama, even if it would save America from burning to the ground, because he was black. They needed to prove that a black President could not succeed.

What makes Obama so great is that, in spite of their blatant obstruction, he goes down in history as being one of the best Presidents to ever serve.

PBC appointed 2 Supremes...as you no doubt know the day PBO was inaugurated they pledged to get rid of him. So if the argument is that VP Biden will be treated differently because he's a white man, I'm not buying it. Especially as it supports the point of view that they have which is that only white men need apply.

2. It is a lame argument, and the OP is right, it is good politics. This is Biden's campaign, trying

to work with everyone. Democrats, Independents, and republicans.

There is not one Democratic candidate who is saying they will not try to work with republicans in Congress if they are President.

The fact that there have been multiple threads in the last several weeks critisizing Biden for essentially saying he wants to try to work with everyone, and unify the country, is amazing to me.

While it is still quite early, up to now the Democratic primary polls seem to indicate that the Democratic primary voters are ok with it for the most part

8. The GOP is by definition right-wing, but...

it is not always stupid. Even though they supported Nixon up to the bitter end, they relented when they saw the jig was up.

These days, they are terrified of being primaried by the worst of the teabaggers in Trump states, so they have to play the part. They are also held hostage by Turtle who has almost unlimited power right now.

Without serious threats from the Trump wing of the party, they won't turn into Bernie Bros but they will become more amenable to compromise.

Best bet is to grab 3 or 4 seats in the Senate, which should be possible. If one of these happens to be in Kentucky, we should be orgasmic.
